I fly for fun, but also to stay alive. I feel that landing safely with 3-4 kills is better than being shotdown and starting over.

If you want to talk about reality issues, the first thing you should do is talk about flying to live instead of all of the super suicide moves that are performed daily.

Ice,

If I was interested in score I would be dweeb whoring every poor SOB in my Chog and flying goons to field captures everywhere.

Since I am interested in statistics, I grab  graceful, sleek fast planes where ride men of skill and honor!

Its in the Statistics man!

Thats where its at!

LoL Wardog, I've done that too!   Have to say it was a blast! Best 1v1 dogfight I have ever been in. Don't know about all this Hog and George talk. The Typhoon is scary!

Oops, sorry Ice. #1. For evidence, look at my score, hehe

I pay attention to my score... it's just a phase... but since I learned that your score will zoom upwards disportionately if you do a little bombing and field capturing with your fighter sorties, it isn't all that big a deal. There are some real lethal experten flying around here that you don't see on the top ten list.

2. I fly for fun and my score is important

Score can be fun IMO - been flying for that for ages now.And it can be done in a G6 as well as a Hog.

*Really* looking forward to the new score handling. If its good it will be a revelation - at least for me.

#1 but i keep an eye on my K/D.  I use that to see how well I'm learning to avoid people better than me (ie everyone).

Serious thought hs brought me to the real reason I play.

To fly with a great group of guys, hopefully on meaningful missions that will promote the "Positive Presence" of my group/squad, as well as my own. I fly to escort bombers to target, fly the wing of another pilot and be an assest to my country's interests.

Yes, that is why I fly

I remember in DOA a squadie saying congrats to me. I asked him "for what??" He replyed for being ranked #3. I didnt believe him as I could name at least 5 people off the top of my head that regularly waxed my butt. That just reinforced my belief that score means absoultly nothing. We all know who the toejam us without a score sheet to tell us.

I fly k/d.

I dont worry about others score.

Its a game i play with myself.

Its not for everyone.

The scoreing system imo is not fair.
There is no way to tell if some one is cheating with 2 accounts. Even killing them.

So i do my own thing.

<flame on>

If you say "I fly for fun" that's valid. If you say "I fly for score" that's also valid.

Unfortunatly if you try to tell us you fly for "score AND fun" in the MA then, IMHO; yer fulla crap.   (<< note smiley) I see guys workin up a kill streak; guys in this thread no less... that rant and rave when they get killed. Yet here they say "I fly fer fun.. not scores."

I submit that flying for 'scores', and flying for 'fun' are mutually exclusive.

How can you help a bud; brave that ostie fire; back up yer wingies and capture that field; dying three times in the process (which is what I consider 'fun') without gettin pissed off at yer team's raw unadulterated dweebery that hampers your score and ENJOY the experience at the same time if you fly for score? The text buffer belies that "I fly for fun AND score" premise.... unless these score guys enjoy ranting and raving more than score dweebery and furball dweebery combined.

In any case; IMHO 'scores' are crutches for the timid... and timid MA pilots are of no use to any team concept that will 'win territory, dominate the enemy's airspace, & ravish their sheep'.... at least in in a AH main arena venue.

IMHO; the only possible use for score is to determine via relative CHANGES and thereby reveal by that change what works; and what don't in attack style and objective success.. It's possible to use 'scores' as a yardstick for effectiveness of gameplay style, that I'll buy. But scores alone don't tell yah the whole story.. they don't reveal who the really dangerous guys are.. only who the timid guys are.

To win an objective, yah HAVE to fight.. like lotto; yah gotta get in it; to win it. That's risky as hell... and counter-productive to a 'good score'. I can and often do damage my score by simply sticking it out in poor odds to achieve an objective... and those objectives are not on the scoresheet... anywhere.

<flame off>

In short; 'scores' are not the measure of an MA pilots effectiveness. Give us a HA and that will no longer be true.

Hangtime:

overall, I agree with you. When I am carefully lonewolfing, my K/D can go up to 8.0. But it's tedious.

When flying with my squad mates, the situation has a tendency to get hairy; you need to be cleared, then wingie needs to be cleared. Then yer jumped by high alt inbound enemies.

That being said, for me for something to be fun, there hsas to be a challenge to it. Part of it is the dogfight itself - the biggest part. But, I also need to see how I'm doing. Am I getting worse/better? Am I killing more than I die?

So, I fly for fun, but keep an eye on K/D ratio - anything below 3 and I get a wee bit worried.

This doesn't mean I fly cautiously - most of you guys have caught me with my pants down down low in the weeds. I means I don't go into a fight knowing I am going to die. I need a *possible* escape, be it outscissoring two or three guys and then extending to friendlies, or killing off two bandits quickly to get a 1v1 with the last one (yeah, like that ever happens  ).

Points I don't care about. hit percentage I don't either, since JABOing screws up things. I will (unlike most it seems) happilly accept the role as an ack strafer when others are vulching. In fact, my job in 9./JG 54 is to strafe acks while the others go for hangars.

But K/D still is a good indicator, so I keep an eye on it.

The rest; can't use it for anything. Either we capture the field or we don't. We get out alive or we don't. Points don't really indicate either (unless yer the goon driver  ).

Uhm, that's it.
