I reckon there is somethng interesting in recon "missions". There are easily the a/c available for recon conversions: Mossie, Spitfire, P-38, P-51, Ar-234...
...perhaps some kind of target only available for capture/attack if a recon ship has "photo'd" and returned successfully?

My idea for the MA, would be that Ships that are located by a MARPAT plane (using a target select like we have for Check6 calls) would be visable on the clipboard for a certain amount of time.
In the ToD, it would be more like what you describe above: The computer mission generator would simply not include anti-shipping missions until the target has been located by a MARPAT plane. Once located, strike missions are generated and made available to strike planes, using the last known location of the enemy fleet.
This could be supply, surface action groups, or even CV groups.
When I think about the number of copies of "micro-soft flight simulator" that fly off the shelf with every edition, I know that there is a market for flying which is not directly combat flying. I hope that HTC is going to try and tap that market by adding things like navigation (ie, taking away the "you are here" icon on the clipboard map), but hey, I'm easy going, I'll be happy with pretty much whatever comes out lol.
