Vid Card - why upgrade?
« on: July 03, 2004, 12:56:33 AM »
Been reading about the 9600, even the 9800 cards.  Seems common to see rates in the 40's to 60's.  I figure to upgrade some time in the not too distant future but why?  I understand AH2 with all the bells and whistles is impressive.  Is anyone running this game full tilt bozo??

My 8500 sees rates of 45 and rarely dips below 45 even in furs.  What are we paying $150 bucks for these days I wonder if my
3 yr old card does just as well.  In fact, Tom's hardware shows the 9600, even the GeF 5200 middle of the pack alongside some very OLD cards.

Sounds to me like vid card mfr's are simply hoodwinking everyone to string along the company's bottom line.  As long as my 8500 plays like this there's no point . . . oh, and it's a VIVO card.

What is full tilt?
I don't think this game has a "full tilt"

For the purpose of seeing what you're missing, push your texture size up to 1024, and in Offline mode, take a look at your airplane skin.  Just don't try to play at that setting unless your card can handle it.

There's a world of difference between texture size of 128 and 1024 when viewing the airplanes.  Maybe I'm kidding myself, but it also seems easier to shoot the other guy at higher texture sizes.
Easy in-game again.
