Buying songs online.... Napster?

OK, if cod forbid, one actually wanted to buy a song for the HD collection what would be the best service out there?

I envision buying the song and copying it to CD and portable MP3 players anytime I so choose, making up various playlists.

Any suggestions/experience?

Im waiting for itunes music store to open here in Norway this autumn and ive heard god things about it.

Toad I use iTunes and have had no problems with it.  It's .99 cents a song.  My wife has also used the WalMart service but I haven't had a chance to check their lcatlogue of songs yet.  Pricing is similiar.

The problem with all of the online providers is that they do not provide MP3 format.

In order to play from your HD, you'll end up having to use whatever player they provide. iTunes will allow you to burn to audio CD or to upload to an iPod (if you have it) and that's it. The work around is to burn as a standard audio CD and then rip it back down and compress as MP3.

What a royal pain in the hole.

They ain't getting my money until I can d/l an mp3.
