I'd never heard the reason why KFC changed its name, that's quite interesting. Still, KFC stands for you-know-what.
I'm really stumped as to the passions of this one little abbreviated word. That's all it is, an abbreviation. But if we want to go overboard with the PC, we need to call "Americans"...oops, "US citizens" what they correctly are too. Also, try and type the word with the correct tone or inflection because people have really become quite sensitive and we don't want anyone crying on the BBS. America is a continent and "Americans" cover quite a lot of peoples from varying countries. So since we all have to be so formal and afraid of everyone's feelings, we need to be clear in that it's USN/USAF/USMC for a reason and substitute the often used "American" with "US citizen" or "US warplane." Woops, "US" is an acronym and we can clearly see how people get ticked off by not being so formal so it has to be "United States citizen" or "United States warplane." I would think it fair that all plane-sets or campaigns are correct and messages on the BBS heretofore show proper respect. I know this is silly, but I also think this entire thing is ridiculous. "Jap" is an abbreviation and no more. But I'll be watching!
However, I did learn today that Yankee is actually and originally a derogatory term. According to my dictionary, it was originally a derogatory term for Hollanders and Dutch and later the Dutch in New York started calling English settlers in Connecticut "Yankees" as a derogatory term. So there you have it, it actually is a bad no-no wash-your-mouth-out-with-soap word and the hammer should fall swift and heavy on anyone who uses it. In contrast, "Jap" is just an abbreviation. Uh ohh, now I know I can't go to the AH Con...Yankee is gonna beat me up!
