I honestly can't imagine such attack that would precipate such a reaction that wouldn't make the question moot anyways.  But prehaps I'm just not that creative?

Delay the election? The Bush conspiracy theorist looneys would have a field day. Micheal Moore would have to make a whole new movie...

Here's one reason why and no it isn't because of terrorism.

I don't think they are considering delaying the elections.  From reading the Article the Bush administration is pushing a bill so that the Federal Government has legal authority to do so IF we ever do need to delay.

I'm no authority on the constitution but I think it would take a constitutional amendment to delay the presidential election a single day beyond January 20.

Amendment XX

Section 1. The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

I know that I will suffer tens of "boosh is Hitler" type answers.

But I cannot resist to express my worries for you... us all.

Giving a government the power to delay at will the elections, it's one of the first steps to dictatorate.

Check Mussolini's starting moves.

And Hitler's too.

Watch out, gents, stay vigilant.

nah, they'll just hold the polls open until more gays, woman, drunks and other "democrats" can get to them and vote as they have been told to vote if they can find/poke out the right hole ..

or they'll hide a couple hundred boxes of bush ballots ...

or they'll just recount until the entire nation looks like dopes and require the courts step in and stop it ....

ya know, just like they did in 2000...
