When is the GV damage code getting fixed?
« on: July 12, 2004, 11:18:14 PM »
I like to drive a panz, and when I want, a tiger. I was under the
impression that when AH2 came out that it would take more than
one gun pass or 2 rockets from a plane to take out an eng or
turret. Or people shotting THRU map room walls and HITTING you, you try to shot back and you get the big flash from hitting the map
room.

I have already been killed inside a group of trees while I was in
the main gun sight. There were no openings and a plane took
me out. I heard the whistle.

For a "WWII Combat Sim" it sure seems one sided. Hey, why not
do away with gvs? No?  Then please fix it.

I'm not an expert on this but from what I've read, a good pass with cannons or a rocket was sufficient to disable/kill even Tiger tanks on the Eastern front. The IL2 was famous for destroying armor with it's cannon.

Exactly, the "IL2" and the "EASTERN" front.
A hit from bombs/rockets even under trees SHOULD be able to kill you.
Cannon rounds from a  gun like the IL2 had  Should also have some effect.
Being killed by rounds from lesser guns like  the 50 Cal should be the exeption and not the norm as there are VERY few confirmed cases of German tanks being killed by the machinegun fire alone from planes. Most of the confirmed cases of planes killing tanks were done through the use of Bombs/rockets. Not Machine guns. And least of all the 50 Cal

Now if these were shermans it might be another story:)

B, Killed by a F4U using 50cals, In an Osti
C, Had a tiger round bounce off an M3

Not to mention while looking at a plane from an Osti and watching it ,,,STOP,,,,,SPIN AROUND,,,,, and a sec later fly away in a different direction than before.

Nice legend mostly.
23mm was almost useless against medium tanks, already 30mm armor cannt be penetrated with it. 37mm was able to penetrate armor of medium tanks like PzIV but probability of hits was low enough. Actually IL2 guns was more usefull against unarmored targets like trucks.
Most effective weapon of IL2 against tanks was anti-tank cumulative bombs. Single IL2 carried about 200 such bombs (each 1.5 or 2.5kg), and single hit destroyed any tank almost in 100%

(sorry for my english)

I was sent to the tower 2 times in a row by a single pass of a Niki while i was in a Panzer lV. on the SFMA map near A52. Once i was in the edge of some trees. The other time i was Well hidden under the forest canopy. (No Holes in the Tree canopy above).
There were not any other Gvs around and no other AC.
Im trying to remember who killed me but i cant remember.
That same base on the same day the same niki took out My main turret and pintle gun 4 seperate times in a single guns pass.

Get rid of the GVs if you're not going to fix them!

Hmmm seems like HT has put this issue on "IGNORE".
What a shame.
I have had M8s take my turret out when we were level at 1k D
or less, same thing when they were slightly higher than me. Yet
my shot bounces off. What about having the 88mm shot from
your tiger bounce off a M3?
That's not right.
Will you fix this PLEASE?!?

My favorite is when you see your shot get a direct hit in the driver compartment of an M16 or M3 and it doesnt even slow it down

thought it was the germans that claimed to have the super men

If HT has put this issue on "ignore" its because he's been through the GV damage modeling code line by line at least 3 times BEFORE Ah2.

If anything I think the modeling is perhaps too good.  I do know it all comes down to
projectile type, weight, speed, distance traveled, angle hit, vs what it hit. Probability of penitration, and damage done IF it penitrates.

Damage on armor is NOT cumulative, however, a tank does have weak spots.
You can sit & plink with a BBgun at a LP tank all day long & do nothing but scratch the paint.

You can probably do the same with a .22 esp if at a bit of distance.

You might even do it a dozen times with a 30.06.  Then again, you might hit a weak spot & have penitration on any given shot.  Manage to hit the valve on top and results could change drasticly.

As to bouncing shells off an M3, remember that AP rounds will go right through that thing. Just like a .22 through a coke can.  You HAVE to hit (or near miss) with HE to stop them.

Last, before anyone brings up the Ostwind being open topped.  I believe HT has said that the osti will fire till the last man of the crew is dead.

Personally I think it needs a small "unable to fire" space inbetween killing crew members at the trigger.  But thats just my opinion.

The GV game has always had some funky goings on from the onset in AH1 and now in AH2 classic.
I don’t like a lot of it. But having put up with it for so long now. I knida ignore it and accept it as one of those unchangeable facts of the game. Its all relative I guess.
But the See thru terrains...the weird weaknesses and the whole gambit of the Gv Model is likely here to stay. After all...it did in AH1 for the most part. Maybe it’s just too hard to fix? Too many factors? I see no changes in the foreseeable future.

Hmm musta missed those posts. Mind posting a link to em?

As for the M3.
Sorry but even if hit with an AP round and it goes clean through the drivers side door one would think that the driver might suffer some damages.
Also a clean shot  in the left or right quaterpanel one would think that even if it went clean through, some engine damage might result.

Also one would think that a direct hit on a track  from an AP round from anything would be enough to knock off a tread on a tank (any type).

Better yet DRED ... any M3 that takes any AP round from any large armour vehicle in AH should be complete toast.

To see a hit sprite on an M3 while in a Panzer and see it keep motoring at 50 mph is ludicrious.
