Speeding Ticket Question..
« on: July 13, 2004, 01:33:43 AM »
Should I be grateful that a cop wrote me up for a 51 in a 45, because he forgave me for going "88". He says if I contest he will remove his previous citation and give the 88 as evidence. I mean... this doesn't make sense.

I know I was speeding, and I think I should be grateful for him giving me a 51 in a 45.. but hell... that means he really doesn't know how fast I was going, or does he?

Any advice?

How fast WERE you going?

Yes it does. If you were going at least 88 then he might have clocked you correctly. If you were not near 88 or over, then he is lying about your speed.

If you were going faster than 51 I'd be grateful if I were you.

Bluffing. Hire a lawyer, spend $50 and keep it off your record. Nothing he can do about it.

But then... why would he be so "nice" and write me up for 51.. **** if its their business to pull people over why not do it at the speed he has registered?

If you were going 88 in a 45 he shoulda hauled your butt to jail. Take your medicine and slow down. :)

Because he would hate to have to go to court to vouch for his version of the ticket. By appearing 'nice' most ticketed people feel 'lucky' and pay for the ticket without contesting it.
His job in this case is to keep people from speeding. He just doesn't want to be hard-nosed about it. He probably feels that by giving you a break on your ticket is enough to slow you down a bit.
...So you WERE going at least 88 ;)

In 1988 I had 74 speeding tickets. All dismissed.

Hell unless you're going to court with me.. I was doing well over 88.. I mean "HONESTLY" I should be grateful...

But why? If its his job to keep people from speeding.. a trip to the slamer and a $400 dollar ticket will make me crawl where ever I have to go....

Well, that is different then. Maybe your lawyer won't charge ya the full price for just a consultation. He'll likely know if you can beat it.
