The VOSS CONSPIRACY... fascinating new book

Trell,
Your reasoning seems a bit flawed to me.    You keep saying if your the victum of a crime or any wrong doing,  its your fault for not protecting yourself and the person that did the wrong is inocent.

If a Young woman wears a pretty dress and someone assaults her its her fault for wearing a pretty dress???   Thats the same logic.

I do agree that folks should try to take measures to protect themselves.  In part that is what many in the flight sim community are doing right now in this forum.   Still, Wrong is wrong in my eyes.

Voss did wrong for several things,  Lying to people about TAS,  Cheating folks out of time and money,  Impresonating a military vet,  claiming HT stole Ideas from him,  etc....

I have a feeling you believe he is Scum like the rest of us,  but are getting hung up on a small point about proof of Conning folks out of money.

I think I will go on the word of those that claim they did,  Voss's word isnt worth believing.   Its good enough for me, since this is not a court of law,  just a disscussion in the community.

From someone who considers himself cynical and a "researcher before a buyer" you sure haven't gotten off the dime on this one. Point your browser to google, goto google groups and type in Voss, TAS and Paul Hinds into the search engine.

You will get tons of information to answer your questions. You will also see what the hell we're talking about.

Thanks grim that is one of the best posts so far.
Now with the women that is not really the same problem, But i will work with it.

Ok a women is raped, and she does not report it, what is to stop him from doing it again, I do not mean that she should folow him around for the next 7 years looking for what he is calling himself like the people of the compunty have been doing, I am talking about a police report, File charges, take him to cord, and save the world from a rapist,

No one has done that with voss.  But with out doing that it is allmost like like condoning it.

I am not for scam artist, I am for the filing charges against them if they did somehting wrong, and if it is to much of a bother to do that, then to forget about them.

how can i put this,   If a scammer took money from me, and i got as worked up as some of u in the compunity has, I would have done sonething about it.

So much of what i have read here is hearsay,  secondhand discussions, somehting they heard from a friend.
You are right I am getting hung up about the proof of theft, becasue with out proof of theft, this is just a card castle.

horn  nothing i could find on google showed any charges filed, no police report filed, so judgment against voss, or even any type of paper proof of how much money or how many people he is accused from stealing from.

The person who best scammed me was a very close friend and the friendship went back to just after highschool for me.  He slowly fleeced me out of a consdierable amount of money over five year's time.  He was able to do so with clever lies and because I refused to question his integrity but rather questioned his decisions with regard to business.  I was stupid and I paid the price.  Since then I have a new rule no business with friends or family.  It keeps things friendlier.

Just to reenforce what Jackal1 is saying I'll tell about my one bad personal experience from a deal online but it involves a different, but just as scummy!, conman.

Several people, including myself, were ripped off by a conman back when I was playing AW in 1997-98.    I was naive and I trusted this guy Ken Strohm (aka KenJR) who at the time was a community leader and real all around well-liked guy. He'd just formed a PC building business partnership with the lead trainer for AW and was to be the supplier of  PC's for the AW 1998 convention.  IMO, if people close to Kesmai and the AW Convention group themselves were doing business with him then I figured why not me?  When he would post systems on the nntp newsgroup  to inquires by people as to where to buy a 'puter he would post systems that sounded great. He promised "great" deals for his AW buds too. It sounded perfect!

I did some checking by emailing with several people about him and recieved nothing alerting back so I felt safe and bought a PC from him.

To make a long story short the PC I got was was NOT what was ordered and was clearly inferior.  I eventually found out he didn't build itt but had the local PC sweat shop in town (Florida) make it.  I called and emailed him to discuss the problems but he would not answer my emails and his phone (turned out to be a cellphone) stopped working. So after a few weeks went by I called his business partner, a handicapped veteran, and after talking with him (he had no invoice of a PC ever sold to me even though I had one with thier letter head on it)  I found out where my PC originated from. And that sadly he could not honor any warranty on it but would help me any other way he could. I also found out that his partnership with Strohm had terminated in the past week because he found out Strohm had been defrauding him too. He also screwed over the 98 AW con people also and several other minor people and businesses. So it was a pretty widespread thing.

So what to do?  I couldn't get a refund.  I couldn't negotiate or deal with him to upgrade the PC to include the right perpherals that should have been in there. Call the police?  Sue him?
Nope. All of that would have cost more than the $1900 I'd spent for a substandard PC.  Instead I, as I imagine many scammed by Voss did, get my pound of flesh by bringing his name up every now and then & ostracising him. Alerting anyone who shows an interest in buying something from him that he'll rip them off.  KenJR is still out there in the WWII flightsim community afaik.  In FA I think.  But over the past 6 years I know I cost him far more business than he ever made off of me. And that serves as my justice.

I think I remember this guy! Didn't he own a B-17, his brother own an F4U, and he was often pitching his PCs in the AW arenas? I recall him mentioning that he sold alot of em at airshows cause he would demonstrate them with AW3 running on them. Talked about getting 90+ FPS (which was pretty cool back then). If it's the same guy I think it is. Pretty sure.

That's him Vor.  I rememberl him telling me all about the B-17 and his brother flying an F4U when we talked on the phone (when I ordered the PC)
