I dissagree.

Though Vampi was your team CO,  YOU were the Offence Buff Planner and I'll bet got easy "rubber stamps" on the plans.
(I forgot till today if it was you or =GB= doing the routing, hard to tell the difference :p  )

That makes you more than just a player and "responsible" (good or bad) for the outcomes of frames 1 and 2.

Another clarification for DoK.   The previous record holder for longest thread (before this one) was "Why the Betties Died" by DaBug of the Cutthroats.

This argument set the tone for "Squabblecanal" and (as I recall) gave DD a few new ulcers.

I think =GB= did the plans for the (very ill fated) Betties and only he or DaBug could prolly do the best job of recounting the nightmare. But it was funny as hell - in hindsight.

What we can all be sure of is that the Betties died - most all of them.  (Dead Betties everywhere - in technicolor)

Who's *fault* that is became another hot-spot that will never quite die.

Follow up:

DaBug (a RL exterminator and RC plane racer) later rejoined the sheepish flock over in EQ as Termodore - I don't think he ever went back to AW after that thread.

=GB= (when he's not dancing) still does buff missions, with or without Betties.

Crap, nuthin' sneaky about it, the route was very straightforward. It was just that nobody expected us to settle for the half-point-value secondary target.

None of this changes the fact that by the end of frame *two* there was a serious problem with the point-spread, and the only hope was that his turn at offence would be spectacular.

No, the point spread wasn't that bad. We were playing "ball control offense", figuring scoring what was safe would be good enough because we were confident we could scout and defend well enough when it was our turn to keep them from scoring much at all.

They were just looking very stoopid at the time because we managed a heavy raid with no battle casualties, which was all THEIR stoopid fault :)

Of course after frame two, your real goal was to drive him totally crazy - it worked.

Nah, me? ~innocent look~

Gotta admit that newsgroup was a helluva flamefest :)

Bah. Vampi did a great job in that scenario, inclkuding calling the strategy, targets, etc. All I did was lay out the routings.

It was in the flamefest I got kinda involved, but that was personal too :)

Well - the idea I'm working on would give the Betty drivers a chance at redemption. The planes will look like Ju-88s, of course - but that's a minor nit.

No Hogs. Mostly the Allies will have .303's and only 4 .50's.

DoKGonZo,

Just wanted to drop a note .. I am head of the CM team that runs special events over in the SEA. Basically Friday and Sunday Squad Ops (many structure 3 frame scenarios), snap shots, KOTH, and full blown scenarios (BoB coming up very soon).

Let me have the head of the Scenario team (Jordi from the DAMNED) get in touch with you. The CMs put on scenarios but also we do player (non-CM) scenarios (Artik just had his run a bit back).

If you are interested that is .. you can design it, hammer things out with them, have a terrain created, how you want the arena setup, and have setup CMs assigned etc.

Just think of them as your worker bees. :)

Anyway hope you are serious about this.

Coolness.

Yeah, I'm serious. I have most of the basic structure figured out for this event already.  I'll try to get it firmed up this week with a list of open issues you guys no doubt know the answers to.

Not sure it'd need a custom terrain - maybe take an existing one and move around a few fields and pile some extra buildings onto one city. Add a few stationery water targets at a port.

I'm wondering if the problem wasn't the scoring system.  The purpose of the Ploesti raids was to degrade axis fuel supply. A few periferal hits wouldn't have accomplished the goal, and the scoring system should have reflected that. Perhaps something like minimum percent of total destruction with some offset for casualities. Just thinking...

INCREDIBLE... simply incredible, another DoK scenario. This is something that one wouldn't even have dreamed of a week ago. All because of that letch Voss. I can hear it now... the engines of long gone AW and WB vets being fired up and fine tuned all around the world, preparing to take part in the glory and merriment to come. The cods have truly blessed us!
