The VOSS CONSPIRACY... fascinating new book

This is a quasi-"what if" event. The AVG I believe had more than 8 P-40's - they made quite a dent as I recall. But for our purposes we're going to shake things up.

As far as I recall, the IJA were deploying older twin-engined bombers against Rangoon (a Ki-something-or-other). About the only thing slower and worse armored than the Ju-88 in AH is the C47 - and that'd just be silly to use as a bomber.

Doesn't AH have a generic "buff-tuff" type setting though?

If the IJN is gonna have all the bombers (supposition here) then a generic bomber tuffness setting might do the trick??

My thought is that a lot of people might come out of the woodwork for this... and us buff drivers need a ride too.

I understand *why* limiting the buff count is important due to the toughness, but what if that could be "fixed" ??

Yeah, I looked through the AH inventory, the Boston III looks like that Japanese bomber, but it is too fast and too armed.  Better to stick to Vals and Kates, they will be close to what iwas there and available(in AH).

That was always my least favorite thing about doing setups-there is never a complete set of planes.  At least now they can be skinned correctly.

One Squad of AVG was there, no idea how many planes.

He's right that you need a twin engined bomber - or smoking one is as good as killing one.

So you re-skin the JU-88 and see (at least try and ask)  if someone can't make them paper thin for the event.

Hey ... Spit I's and Hurri I's did quite a number on Ju-88's during the Battle of Britain. I don't think it'll be all that lopsided using 88's. It just won't be like a late-war event where a flight of 190's can wipe out the entire bomber stream in one pass.

Oh ... and this event isn't "Atkins Approved" ... some of the planes have carb's.

Here we go, now I am finding some info.  On Dec 23, 1941, the IJ hit Rangoon for the first time.  1 squadron of Ki27's hit the town(numbers unknown) and the airbase, getting 5 of 15 RAF aircraft and 4 of 12 AVG fighters. There were Hurries, Buffalos and the random bombers.   IJ bombers hit the port, simultaneously.  The bombers were: Ki31, Ki21 and Ki48, numbers unknown, 1 squadron of each.

"at no time did the defenders(Allies) forces have more than about 20% of the air strength opposing them"

Info from Aircam aviation series, Ki48 and Ki27.

In late march, it came to an end as 4 fighter regiments, flying Ki27 and Ki43 with over 200 plane moved into Burma, Allied forces were concentrated at magwe, and in one massive raid the IJ wiped them out as an effective force.

Before then, I assume in Feb-March, the Allies flew bomber raids on IJ airfields in Thailand destroying them on the ground, and also accounted for a conservative 120 Japanese airplanes in the air.

I recently saw a special on the AVG on the History Channel (which is what gave me the idea for this). At first there was one sqdn, then they sent a second group for a little while - before withdrawing everything back to China because their fields at Kunming got hit while they were detached to the South.

The Boston III will be a stand-on for the Blenheim for the Allies. But it's role will be pretty interesting.

I don't want to reveal everything until the CM staff and I can confer and get things nailed down. It's half historic, and half "what-if" - what is depicted starts from what really happened and projects a different next step by both sides.

The only other thing I'll say is that these will be much more complex and difficult missions to fly than it sounds on the surface. And I kind of like the fact that it'll be taking more than a squirt of 20mm to kill a bomber - it was a big deal back then to down a bomber. It should take several missions before the bombers get to get worn down in strength - that's how it really was.

That was before they decided to disperse their aircraft. The airfield at Rangoon was bombed to smithereens. They eventually build auxilliary fields and used new field strategies and continued. Not too many Ki-43s yet at that time. I believe only one squadron in that arena at that time.

Ummm if you're heading to WW2OL and you're looking for MW guys theres a whole pile of em in 3rd Panzer, we've been playing together for over a year now (squaddies that is) and just realized who each other was ("you're MW dweebs from AH?" - "you're that alt-monkey dweeb from AH?").

At least I think the MW dweebs in WW2OL that were in Ah are the ones from AW.
