How about some questions without reverting to flames, personal insults etc that seem to proliferate the BB.
1) Fed up with the current map?
2) Would like bigger maps back?
3) You consider AH2 at best a Release Canditate (RC) version.
4) Or at worst a Beta
5) How long till major bugs e.g. CTD's fixed (I know it's always my systems fault)?
6) Was AH2 rushed out?
7) Will Tour of Duty be rushed out?
8) If so will Tour of Duty suffer from the same problems?
First off, the "maps" aren't the issue that's the easy part.
This is what happens when you take a game, use directX9 to throw it together, it spits out a game.
Now before
everyone & their brother jumps on me and starts in on the whole "hey buddy if your so great, go program your own game" or "if you don't like it, don't let the door hit ya" type of remark, let me point a few things out.
First off, I do not want to see this game and it's community go away, die off like WB's or go broke due to lack of interest.
Secondly, I, like so many here not only love the "idea" of this game, but it's people and what it provides. If people were into "Sim flying" they'd be playing IL2 or Lomac not AH.
Third, The reason people get sooooo angry about "this game" is not entirely "the game" it's the slap in the face received from the people who developed it and it's community. I know a lot of the guys that have stood up and stated some facts {notice I said FACTS} I did not say OPINIONS, don't confuse the two. They were quickly beaten down, flamed on and told to {you know what} by the "HTC is awesome, they can do no wrong" crowd of loyal followers.
This is where it starts to break down, the BBS is chock full of evidence that the people are not happy, the game doesn't work, and will not until it is done correctly. Period!
Thats how games/game engines work. People have spent hundreds, even over a thousand dollars preparing thier systems to play a game that can be created in Dx6 or 7, only to have it run like garbage. "I spent this $$$ to get this?"
My recommendation, lets quit trying to fool each other, make excuses, point fingers or beat each other over the head to make our points.
There is no magic "right answer" we the AH community are the clients/customers. We are who signs HTC's paychecks, without "the community" HTC is just another neat idea.
I wan't this to be the biggest and best WWII online combat sim there is, with all the features we have come to enjoy and don't mind paying for.
Maybe HTC can lease a good game engine? Hire more experienced programmers? Let the community get more involved with production ? Who knows, but I have a feeling in its current state this will continue to decline.
