Who hid the g6?
« on: July 20, 2004, 11:47:29 AM »
Flew a 109g6 last night for the first time. I had always disliked flying the !09 series due to the f4 and g10 models. I simply sucked in them. However on a whim I gave the g6 a try. I loved it instantly. Is the this a little known secret or a Ah2 sleeper ride? :)

Now where is that  JB squad web page?

G6 is a good plane that can turn a tad bit more than a G10.  If you get really good in a G10 about the torque you will be a monster in the MA with it.  109F4 is a monster!!! how can you not like the model?  Just take away those damn gondies and go about kill spitflowers that think you're a 109G10 and try to turn fight.

Nobody flies the G6 because the G-10 basically does everything better.

The G-6 is completely outmatched by the Spit 9 and Niki (both planes E-fight and turnfight better), but the G-10 can out-fight the Nik in the vertical (still has a tough time with the spit).

I'm not even 100% convinced the G-6 will "out turn" a G-10.. the G-10 weighs a little bit more but it has significantly more horsepower to hold it in the turn.

G-6 is nice for collecting perks though, at 40 ENY it is probably the 2nd best plane for "perk collecting".  If perks actually mattered you might see more of the G-6.

have fun

bunch new members last few weeks too.

flying it with the 20mm or 30mm? with/without gondolas?

it can be real good against some planes, not so good against say a spit V.
im a franz and dora guy myself. 42 has become an A5 guru, and 1/2 the squad is really into the 109F8.

Hmmm. Maybe Ill have to give the g10 another try. I was having np at all hangin with the 202 and spits last night, and i loved the climb rate. was absolutely nailing cons when they tried to rope another friendly, or any over the top move for that matter. I was very impressed with it...i dont remember the g10 turning that well, but its been awhile.Thanx for the info...

i cant staaaaaand the g10. the g6 was my fav ride for the longest time. i couldnt imagine myself without it. it seemed like it always got me out of a bad situation.......whether it took the hits or out gunned the opponent or a kucky strike on my last pass to kill him with a 30mm round or enuff power to go just over the top to come down just on the guys six.......g6 truly one of the best. should probably fly it a lot more often.

The G-6 is the worst 109 by a wide margin. Every one of the other models does something (most do several) things better than the G-6. I'd have to say my favorite is the F-4, followed by the G-10.

G-10 handels much better in AH2 then in AH1.  In AH1 I spent most of my time in the Dora & then the G-10, now it's the other way around.  Have not tried the G-6 yet, for I only have been playing AH2 for a couple of days.  The only thing I don't like about the 109's is the roll rate, but that can be somewhat overcome by unloading your G's & use of rudder.

Call me slow, but I only now noticed that the 109F-4 and G-2 now have the proper 200 cannon rounds available.  No wonder I've been seeing more of those white 109's.

My LW favs are the G10(with gonds), F4(with gonds), G2(with gonds), then G6(no gonds), 190d9, a8, f8, a5, 110g.  I don't use 30mm except in the 110.

G10 handles better in AHII IMO.  All the 109's seem to handle better.  So do the 190's and 110's.

Key to G10 is mainly the rudder IMO.  But watch your speed!  Too slow you get caught, too fast you compress.  The higher you are the faster you can go.
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

In AH2 I'm still gettin' used to hearing the "slats" banging open and closed on the 109s.

The slats are (usually) visible in AH2. But apart from the E-Version all the 109 should have slats that pop open simultaneously.

AFAIK the independent deploying slats were there in the early models, and that was one of the main reasons the LW Pilots didnt like to apply too much AoA, so they would let the slats pop open because they would roll the plane to that side on which the slat was deployed first. When your just about to nail tha bad guy thats not what you want to happen I guess.

All the later models had "connected" slats, so there wasnt a rolling-moment anymore.

While I'm not really sure about the 109s,  I have no clue how the slats on other planes worked. Like the La5 or La7.

So, maybe this is a bug. Anyone know more?

As for the thread-topic: I like the 109G6 very much with the 30mm gun. It seems to be a tad more maneouverable than tha G10 but also weaker. But there is surely a lot of less torque, at least it appears to be this way. While it canot turn with the average Arena-population (Spit or La7 in wide speed margins) its good enought to get a good shot off.

The 30mm appeals to me prolly because I really suck at shooting since AH2, and with the 30mm you have to get close, but 1 hit kills (mostly).
