Let's just all become liberal muslims and all our worries will be over. No more terrorism and no one will have to work for a living, well, except for the women. ;)

Well Canada is number five on Al-Quaeda's hit list.

Granted I don't know where we were five years ago.  But some people argue, and I think successfully, that Iraq has turned into a recruiting ground for Al-Quaeda.

On top of that, the Bush Administration has spent well over 100 billion on the Iraq war, while the CIA's budget is only 3 billion.  I think that's a huge misallocation of resources vis-a-vis the war against terror.  Bush has also said that find OBL isn't a priority anymore.

I think these things make me less safe.

Yeah I told ya so.
"Socially liberal but fiscally conservative" is a liberal cop-out, a Kerryesque Waffleism.

So you are going to pidgeonhole me because I'm "liberal" on one issue?  Sorry if I'm not an absolutist.  I'm not going to through out the baby with the bath water.

Not just for the sake of having them employed.  But in a situation were there is equitable, free trade between our countries.  Granted, that the US has an over 50 billion  trade deficit with Canada.  But we still do almost 170 billion dollars worth of equitable trade, where both countries benefit.  The tariffs and the solutions for them simply aren't fair.  I like free trade, I think Canada and Canadians can compete with the US, to the benefit of both our countries.

Here's one thing.

We are also spending a lot of resources on tracking and finding terrorists cells in Canada.  And are working very closely with the US in this.  Canada may have been against Iraq, but we are certainly for fighting the war against terror.  And working closely with the US in this is for our mutual benefit.

Do you think Kerry gives you a better chance at free trade?

I don't know.  I do now that Bush has been protectionist.  Kerry might be more, less, or the same.

I apply the same reasoning to politians I can actually vote for up here.  I vote for the new guy (multiparty system) depending on thier platform.  But I simply won't vote for the incumbant if they lied to me even once.

Bush has been protectionist towards Canada (and we are a country that the US even has a free trade agreement with), so I am against him (as well as for other reasons).

To quote Runsfeld, it's a known known.

Kerry might be.

It's an known unknown.

Yes, there are certain things that cover both fiscal and social issues.  And there are some that don't.  Pigeonholing always sucks, doesn't it.

For example, what is your position on the issues I listed above?
