Was a little hot-headed yesterday
« on: January 17, 2000, 03:05:00 PM »
I fly Knight now due to our squad's recent change.  Well, the last couple nights have been trying from a Knight's point-of-view, at least the times I've been on: 10pm-5am PST.  Knights were being attacked from both sides, inevitably resulting in the end of the war from our loss.  All the three countries go through this, but that never makes it fun.  And the problem is that I'm a 'defender-type' of player.  I'll pay with many of my lives to stop an incursion into my territory.  Unfortunately, when heavily outnumbered the result is invariably the same: loss of lives, loss of country.

I got very terse with everyone, including the Knights (I couldn't even talk to my own countrymen, I was so mad at them).  In any case I realized apologies were necessary to those of you who I may have offended.  So, I'm sorry.

I'm trying to adopt new values, becoming a 'score-type' of player where my own air victories, my own life, are what count.  It'll take time, but I think it'll be easier on the heart, so to speak.

Who said this was supposed to be a game???

I fly Knight because it is always the lowest side, and you are right, it has been overwhelming lately. No biggie, score is nothing, and right now I'm enjoying the stubborn defense of fields against seal-clubbing Bishops/Rooks. Sometimes we (the "Few") can get it done, sometimes we can't, but we make them pay dearly for our fields.

It does seem sometimes like there is no real push to finish the job, the effort seemingly to keep Knights to 2 fields so kills will be easier (grouping the fish for the net). I'll leave that to score hounds.

So, relax and fly and fight and die and explore each revision and have fun...

...speaking of which, I have not been very effective at all in this revision! I don't if something subtle has changed with the F/M I missed, if it's horrendous connects, the lopsided numbers, or all of the above, but I haven't been able to kill squat (yes, I did before  ). I do know that I have no desire to take that out on anyone else.

Yes, the two field war does get kind of old and frustrating at times.  You feel like a badger who can't fight his way out of a rabbit hole, surrounded by chipmunks.

When this happens I have to give up wanting to own any real estate.  I fly just for the fun of it, or I log off.  The worst condition is when the NME holds all the bases adjoining your HQ.

I fly Bishop's.  About every other time I log on we only have 2 to 3 fields.  At times I have been tempted to switch sides.  Then attack my own bases, just to force a reset.  So far I have resisted those urges, after all "It is Just a Game!".

All in all, this is nothing new.  Pretty much been happening since I joined the AH Beta, and flew for Bishop's ever since.  We Bishop's have won a few, but seem to have lost many more.

I very seldom see a force of inferior numbers accomplishing this "One Sidedness".  Basically, If you have the numbers, most of the time you win.

Now, with the Knits such a formidable force.  Whom ever gets "Gang Banged" the most, loses.  The arena has changed, but the end results often have not.  This is the game.

Good Luck in Losing your Wars!

Bleh.
We win, they win.
We lose, they lose.
Its all the same.

As long as I get the chance to drill large caliber rounds through the bones and soft tissue of other players I don't mind.

Actually I had a blast last night.  We were getting swarmed.  I was engaged within 30 sec of takeoff every flight.  Didn't have to worry about strategy, or searching for enemy on long flights.  Just pop up in a Niki with 25% fuel WEP from the get go and flail like a mad monk!  Boom Boom Boom Boom.  Muhahaha.

"The best defense is a good offense"

"Fight to fly; fly to fight; fight to win"

The 'strategy' or territory game can be very very trying. These guys for the most part can't be held accountable for their actions or worse; inactions. So; don't let em ruin your game. Help when and where yah can.. but if some newbie dives into the furball on the deck essentially commiting social suicide and then has the nuts to holler for help.. well then; it's decision time.

I once said that megaplayer sims are great.. 150 guys online is amazing.. but when the fight starts the only one that matters is the one in front one me.. the other 148 just screw my frame rate.

The best compromise I can offer: if your into the strategy game get a good wingman. Keep him alive. Then you can lead by example.. soon others will help and the sim becomes a team effort again. And that is very gratifying too.

Lastly.. you know how good a pilot you are. Most all here know too. (I know from personal experience just HOW good; and thats a damnsight better than me. ) And that is NOT a factor of the scorecard. Scorecard pilots are pitiful creatures.. intent on only the score. Good for them.. less than good for their wingman or their team.

Decide whats important to you.. you know how well you can fly; how well you can fight.. a scorecard should not be necessary to confirm it. How you answer that call from the maroon in the hole says alot about what KIND of pilot you are.

'omw Leonid'

Hang; out.

Welcome to the Knights,

Leonid

Ain't it grand to fight 3, 4 and 5 on 1's every other fight.

See what others fail to see, is that in Knightland there is a steep learning curve by fighting these odds.. also we get much more experience by fighting such.

Given this learning curve sooner or later 20-30 knights online means total domination.

They just hurting themselves in long run by bashing knights all the time.

Amen, DoctorYo!

Tonight was another addition of the same. We kept 22 for a good while, but they just kept a steady wave of fighters and bombers pouring in. We at one time had maybe 8 defenders against 20-30 fighters and bombers. At times it was 2 vs. 20 or so. Sound familiar?

It is getting a little disheartening putting up with this every night...

On a lighter note, I did manage a couple of actual air-to-air fights tonight, and had fun. S! Airman and Mistake, you were the rare Bishops that weren't clumped together like a sticky mass of oatmeal.

Easy cure

I fly for Knights almost all the time, when there are those 1 on 20s late PST. All i do is start a base away, get to alt. Look for the real pests (17s)   , take them out in a few passes. Circle around wait for the 47s to show their faces, zoom in, take them out, zoom back up   . Oh, the Fighters! Dont think their capping is going to affect me if they cant get the 17s in. And if they do, just keep shooting their 47s and extend. Whew, after all that, 30 mins later, ACK comes back up! They scatter! Then its really easy pickings with all them smoking slow pokes   hehe

Sound too good to be true? I do it most of the time till that pesky 51 or Spit comes from 59,999.99K. And they know who they are

Anyways, its fun in my eyes. I only think of what the cappers are saying. WHAT!? We have to wait for ANOTHER Goon!?  hehehe

BEWARE, When I get my 38!!

Central-

Sounds like good advice, but sometimes that isn't possible. We held 22 so long because they couldn't slip the c47 through a determined point defense. And several times, it was close!

Another thing to remember is that pretty much all the Knight bases were under attack from both Rook and Bishop (I just happened to be at 22). It was pretty desperate. There really was no "rear base" to go to. This is what it's like most nights I'm on.

Yeah last night was fun for awhile but it got old after a couple of hours defending 22.

I enjoyed most of the fights and I'll never complain about vulching but please do me a favor and never come over the radio after you finally get the base and tell me how good you are.

Most of the time there were only 2 or 3 of us at 22 defending against 20+. Hell Dolomite was by himself when I got in and was there by himself at the end when I had to go help at 19.

Now don't get me wrong you guys have some very good pilots but it always seems to be the one who can't get a kill unless he's in a swarm (or ackstarring in a 17 or 26)that has to open his mouth and say how good he is.

Yes this is a whine.
