Skuzzy (Monitor Problems)
« on: August 14, 2004, 12:43:57 AM »
My screen seems to have slight wavy paterns running vertical on it. It seems to stop now and then but comes back almost immediatly, I'd like to know if this is a problem or as a result of it being new. Just got it last week. It's an NEC Multisync Super Bring Diamndtron... Thanks in advance.

Another clue. It happends on websites. When I scroll down or up the wavy pattern begins, then when I stop scrolling the wavy patterns just continue. Also when scrolling up and down, a straight line becomes snake like. Lines I mean like a border, when scrolling become slitherish.. Concerned as it is a new monitor.

This also does not occur when Im in windows. One funny thing I did notice is when I am aligning screen to edges of monitor, the edges are a bit wavy. So instead of being exact in aligning, I have to go a bit into the monitor to make sure the edges don't show up..

My guess would be refresh rate.

Shucks, if it was an NVidia FX card, I would have had an answer.

The lines you speak of are usually present when the power output of the flyback transformer in the monitor is picking up noise or getting an usually high level of ripple in the current.

This assume the video card and/or video cable are all good.

Is there a magnetic source anywhere near the monitor, video cable, or power cord to the video cable?

I had that problem for a while and the only thing I could think of was I was running the monitor past its recommended refresh rate.  It only got worse and so I had to get a new monitor, because the only thing that made it better was running at 800x600 resolution.  Even with the lower resolution it would start getting wavy again.  But then again, my monitor was 8-10 years old...  You may want to try running at the lowest refresh rate available, that may help it some.

Hope it all works out for ya though.

My headphones? Everytime I start up my puter my headphones make an incredably loud high pitched noise for about 10 secs then it stops. Maybe?

What kind of sound card?  Sounds like an open-drain transistor, but that should not be on the output of the sound card.

Hmm,..something not right there.  I have the Audigy 2 Platinum, and it does not do that.  But I will check further as I have that particular card at home.

I would guess you have radio interferences.

When the soundcard is not powerd up fully you might catch them with the cable of the headphones.

You tried setting up comp and monitor at another place in the room, on a diffrent power plug?

Is your monitor cable shielded?
