HTC - Perk the Disabled? Please
« on: August 14, 2004, 08:03:44 AM »
HT.. I'll admit that the only reason I care about your new side balancing idea is because I fly the P-51D all the time. If it is disabled, then I have to start jumping countries to fly it.

May I suggest, that rather than disabling said aircraft, how about turn them into perk planes?

Using the same code that would trigger the planes to be disabled, just turn on perk values for them at a reasonable starting price - in the range of the F4U-C.

Of course then, if the number disparity becomes greater, the price for the perks goes higher, as it does with all other perk planes currently.

I think by this means, you will effectively accomplish the same thing because people can switch sides to fly them for free, but dedicated squads or players that only fly a certain aircraft won't have to switch countries if they are willing to pay the perk price.

How about it?

I agree, but I disagree with you suggested start price.  It needs to be painful.  Set the start price at 50 or 100 as each unit gets perked, and work up from there.  I was thinking 20 last night, but after further consideration I don't think 20 is enough.  10 is certainly not enough and would have essentially no effect.

Finally, perks would be worth using. I fly the F4U-C quite a bit because it is in the 10-20 range. I never fly the 262 because I never have enough perks to get it (and don't have the skills to fly it anyway, as a result). I never fly the Spit XIV when I can fly the Tempest - and I am very, very careful with the Tempest because I only have 150-200 fighter perks at any point in time anyway.

20-30 perks (to start) for an ENY disabled plane is about right to entice me to use it and not make it out of reach for my perk bank. The primary reason I have relatively few fighter perks (compared to some) is because I DO use them a lot for the C-Hog.

This would be essentially the perk modifer re-hashed.
Didn't really work 1st time no reason to see why it would work now.
In addition you will hurt the newbs the most who haven't got the perks to spend. Result, new guy on 2 week freebie decides not to subscribe. Yes he could change sides to get them, but then as most people seem to want to stay certain country, why should he.

Seems like another we want our advantage and we want to keep it discussion.

Midnight...

I do appreciate your concerns. But, what you are suggesting would kind of defeat what HT is trying to accomplish....wouldn't it?

Kev, all other things be equal. Wouldn't you WANT the new guy to join up with the country that has the fewer numbers ? (i.e. more affordable planes). As it is now, the new guy may feel obliged to join the country that has the numbers so that he can survive his first two weeks (to some extent). If the ENY disabled planes of the more populous country are not available anyway (Spit 5 at 15ENY, N1K at 7ENY, LA7 at 5ENY as typical newbie planes) then the new guy is not going to get into a plane that gives him a "learners" flight experience. New guys will now be funneled into 109's, 190's, P47's.

How does that serve the newbie as it stands now ?

I thing you make a great point NoBaddy. We just don't know yet whether ENY disabled planes are going to "balance numbers" in the MA. The stats aren't in yet.  We don't know enough yet to say whether this solution is going to "fix" an imbalance problem.

Outside factors are going to impact these stats, though. School is starting for many of the players in here and numbers are going to continue to change (at least for certain periods of the day) for two more weeks still before they settle down again.
