low arena numbers= no plane limiter
« on: August 16, 2004, 12:44:02 AM »
I just logged and there was less than 175 total players in arena.75 knights 60 rooks and 40 bishops and knights eny number was  19.4 limiting almost 1/3 total planeset. When numbers in arena get that low it is more of a dueling arena than anything else and plane set limiter  should be off. didnt really effect me  cause i was flying hurri2 and 109g6 mostly, but whenb i wanted to get a plane fast enough to catch rooks  rtpjies and lalas  i wasnt able to. Just wondering how much more broke this game can become

This I agree with, there should be a total number of players at which the ENV limit kicks in.
200-ish maybe.

I think you have a valid point.  This isnt the first Ive seen it, but it might be the first time its been posted.  After roster gets so low, the arena dynamics are very different than they are during primetime.  If not a disablement of the balancer at least a softening of it, because the 10 pilot difference in USPT is a minor % difference, but early AM it could equate to a huge ENY value.

Just as an example:
IF TotalRoster<175 then ENYDisable*.75
IF TotalRoster<150 then ENYDisable*.5
IF TotalRoster<100 then ENYDisable*.25
IF TotalRoster<75 then ENYDisable*0.0

75 knits vs 40 bish?

I think it is ok that the limit is on as ods are 1:2

But not all 75 knights are fighting Bish, there are Rooks too. So you're not as outnumbered as you think.

I don't understand where folks think it will be a 50/50 split for folks fighting each side.  It doesn't happen and never will happen.  If one side has more then common sense would tell you apply your resources there.  Who's fault is it if you aren't thinking logically?  Frankly it's the people on each side that make this game what it is.  If your to selfish and can't adjust what your doing to help the overall cause then play somewhere else.  The MA is about team work.  It's peoples stubborness to not help that is part of the issue.

I can understand an overwhelming number on one side where even with both of the two lower countries numbers can't even the fight or take advantage of it.

What is exactly the point of having a three sided war in the first place?  What so it won't be purely and Axis vs Allied type fight?  Is that third country not there so it has the ability to keep the balance?  If not then why have it in the first place? Make it a two sided war and be done with it.  You don't have to fight both of the other countries all the time.

Its still outnumbering situation.  So I did not say shut it off.  But I can see where you could get a ENY limit disproportional to what is actually going on in the arena.  In my limited experience.  There are some scattered private skirmishes, a good furball going on somewhere and the rest are milkrunning.  A high ENY limit doesnt stop the milkrunning, but it does put a damper on the rest of the activities.
Mabey Im totally off base, but it seems to me there should be a minimum set at some point.  I mean, is it really practical if some squads have more on their roster than the arnea?
