pre load into video or memory
« on: August 19, 2004, 01:59:16 PM »
I dont understand the option to load textures into memory and / or video memory.

What is the point to load to both ram and vid ram?

I have 256 mb video and 512 ram, shall I load only to video maybe ?

Please explain.

Thx

Difference?  load speed times.  Load as much into your
vid card as ya can, and the rest into memory.  If you
don't preload, everything that needs to be accessed would be done directly off the hard drive...= slower load times, and stutters
in the game.
Oh, and there is no way you'd be able to load everything into video ram, as textures are way more than 256MB, so the remaining is directly available in memory

When I look at Ctrl+I I can see that the 256 memory is not even half full ? (I use 128 textures)

If I tick both options, will it load double all textures? First in RAM and then in Video RAM?

You should run at least 512 in textures.  And clicking to pre-load in memory would be ok.
