I've been looking forward to Rome Total War since it's very first announcement. However I'm so totally engrossed in FS2004 and flying a 727-200 Freighter online I doubt I'll even think of it.

Yay the demo is out!

I just defeated a 1500 Roman army, i only   had 88 casualties.  When the batle started i thought i was going to lose as i had kept my cavalry out of the battle of a long time.    My elephants did most of the work and smashed right through the Romans lines.

I think i'm going to like this game.:)

I've never played M:TW online, I really don't know why.  Maybe the single player campaign was so good i didn't feel the need.  I am in the middle of a campaign as england during the high period.  So far i've conquered the brit isles (except scotland), france, spain and skandinavia.  I'm in the process of invading Italy and N africa.  Victory shall be mine....mwehehehe!:)  I'm earning 10,000 gold a turn....i'm earning money faster than i can spend it!

I can't wait for R:TW:)

I bought MTW after a look at shogun, their earlier release.

While I don't normally buy a lot of boxed games I thought this one had real potential. 1.5 years later is still one of my top 3 most played.

I did get online for a bit with it. But that world was so different that what it takes to win vs the AI. That it wasn't really fun.

Looking forward to when I can afford to buy the Rome release, sounds like it should be good.

thrila, did they fix the cavalry problem they had in the 2 shogun games?

In Shogun Total War and in the Warlord Edition you would send cavalry to charge a unit of foot soldiers (whatever unit, spears or archers didnt matter), in 'V'  formation (supposed to be the formation that best 'breaks' up the formation of those they are charging).....

the cavalry would go downhill, at full gallop and the instant the first horseman on the tip of the 'V' hit the enemy the ENTIRE V formation would just STOP and wait out until the horseman in the tip of the formation cut his way through.

imo, the entire cavalry charge should just smash through instead of stopping.. you know, a -la LOTR cavalry charges.

Well when i first begin a game the closest faction early and spend all my money on building armies.  I conquered all of the france's provinces  except one by about 15-20 turns (the pope told me to stop, curse him).:)   I try to expand my number of provinces at the start to about 20 before i think about  building structures to get better units.  This way i have a couple of 1000 gold pouring in every turn.   If one of your neighbours is already at war with someone attack him.  It's not very nice to kick a guy when he's down, but life sucks. :-)

I would say most of my money comes from sea trade.  I have a boat in every sea province.  Don't forget to give the title of a provence that makes money to a general with a high acumen.  It can often double the money it makes.

Think they are a few bugs in the game tho.  My king has a influence rating of 8 crowns yet  no other leader will talk to my emmisaries.  With a rating of 8 i'm considered the uber king.

tac, they have fixed it in R:TW. I sent my elephants into the side of the roman line and they smashed all the way down the length of it. It caused 4 units of romans to run for their lives.:D
