The funny thing is that this chart is true. My brother that lived  in madison calls it "pop". I live 60 miles away and we call it soda

Madison is a huge mix due to it being such a large college town.  You'll get soda, pop, 'lets smoke', etc... Actually, don't think I've ever heard pop out there :)

The elite call it 'soft drink'
The middle class call it 'coke'
The urbanites call it 'pop'

Lol, thats great.  Someone actually took the time to study this?
I used to live in the pop part of PA, and moved to the soda part.  There is a guy a couple years older than me from the same hometown that moved here also.

His first job in this area was for the beer distributor.  While making deliveries, he goes in to this place of business, and says "I have your pop out here".  The lady was completely confused as to who he was and why he had her father outside lol.

Notice, southern Florida, proving once again that south Florida is not in the south.

BTW, here it's all coke. If you want be be specific, you oder a "Co-coaler"

And the waitress says, "Thanks honey."

I had the C2...tastes just like Pepsi.  So, you want to know the proper names?  I was a bartender for many years, in many parts of the country.  Here is the proper usage:

The proper generic term is "soft drink."  Soda is soda water.  Tonic is tonic water.  Pop is not valid.  If you order a bacardi and coke, you get a bacardi and coke, unless the bar serves pepsi products, in which case the bartender *must* ask you if a pepsi substitution is acceptable.  The same holds true for 7Up/Sprite.

Cola is the generic term for "dark" soft drinks (aka coke, pepsi, rc, etc) with the exception of Dr. Pepper and its substitutes.

To quote Eddie Murphy pretending he's Richard Pryor:

Have a Coke and a smile and stfu :)

Come on you neanderthals... Get with the times. Everyone knows its a SODA. I'm not just saying that because I'm from Cali. A grape flavored soda cant be a coke and pop just sounds stupid.
