I had the C2...tastes just like Pepsi. So, you want to know the proper names? I was a bartender for many years, in many parts of the country. Here is the proper usage:
The proper generic term is "soft drink." Soda is soda water. Tonic is tonic water. Pop is not valid. If you order a bacardi and coke, you get a bacardi and coke, unless the bar serves pepsi products, in which case the bartender *must* ask you if a pepsi substitution is acceptable. The same holds true for 7Up/Sprite.
Cola is the generic term for "dark" soft drinks (aka coke, pepsi, rc, etc) with the exception of Dr. Pepper and its substitutes.
