Man my nite was ruined when
« on: February 10, 2001, 07:57:00 PM »
I was diving in on a goon, 2 b17's and more fighters all parked at captured a49, in my p51, screaming fast but not nearly enuff to break wings... and ack is up, 1 ping, BYE BYE wing and on fire, 1k away from pay dirt.  Could agot me 5 kills, instead a goon killed me   Damn 1 shot wonder ack, i hate being killed by a CPU with magic aim. In world war 2 ack wasnt ALWAYS deadly.

yes, wegaman...I still remember those happy days if 1.02 when one could dive thru acks, get pinged once or twice and still not see some parts of the plane falling off...

As it is right now, its better to stay well off any enemy acks, because if it hits you, you can well kiss your plane goodbye.

Ahh.. young grasshoper goes fer the vulch; the ack gets him... and he squeakes the acks are too accurate. LOL

Grasshopper chose poorly methinks. Wonders if grasshopper will do it again.

Anyone wanna take a bet?

ok, how about this way then.

going in to straff acks, already 5 acks down so only 4 left. straff two of the remaining four, doing about 400mph, and hear on ping and my wing is gone. are the acks now using lazer sights to aim with.

Easiest way to avoid dying to acks is to present minimal cross section. Straight in and straight out. Weaving doesn't work as well now. In a H2H session I deacked a medium field using a Macchi 205, so you don't need an ultra-tough plane

Having said that, I've died on numerous occasions at vehicle fields when diving to drop my bombs on a vehicle hangar with my Typhoon, with the acks still up. Pretty frustrating, as I drop from a good distance.

Barrel rolls seem to work when evading ack. I can deack a field maybe 8/10 just by keeping fast and barrel rolling out of there.

Acks are strange.  I took a JU88 over a Training Base at 3500 (that's 3500 not 35,000) with all acks up, and never got hit once.  Made two runs like this.

One ping kills from ack are wrong?

Have you ever seen a 40mm AntiAircraft roun? A single shell could easily sever your aircraft in half, let alone a wing.

There's nothing wrong with accurate ack.....makes for a fun ride getting pinged lots.  But it's the damage done that pisses me off.  1 ping and it's all over.

I mean ferchristsakes for gameplay purposes, ack is only there to stop goons capturing bases anyway.  Make it more fun and give some damage that we can deal with.....not wings/tails falling off at the first ping.

Last I looked; most fields had .50 cal and 20mm and 40mm; big fields and ports those plus 88's.

I usually go for the big stuff first.. easy to spot by the slower rate of fire. My pony routinely takes 50 cal ack hits without significant damage, can even suck up some 20mm and still fly. But catch a 40mm or 88 slugs and yer toast.

This seems to be a common theme. "I can't kill ack and I get shot, so therefore ack are screwed up and overmodeled yadda yadda yadda..."

If the ACK are killing you, you're doing it wrong. Keep your dive angle steep. Place your gun cross on the target no longer than 1 or 2 seconds. Squeeze off a few rounds and proceed to the next emplacement. If you're waiting around to actually see the ack explode, you're going to die.
