Pacific Fighters November Release
« on: September 15, 2004, 06:58:04 AM »
Xmas will come early this year!

http://www.ubi.com/US/Games/pacificfighters_pc.htm

The award-winning flight combat from Oleg Maddox’s IL-2 series moves the setting from the Eastern front to the fierce combat of the Pacific theater. Allied fighters and bombers square off against the notorious air power of the Japanese empire. For the first time, a large variety of British aircraft will be included along with the U.S. and Australian planes. Target enemy ships, vehicles, airfields, and a host of AI-controlled aircraft. Re-enact some of the most famous air battles of WWII in places like Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima.

Game Features

Fly a variety of WWII fighters and bombers: Fly for the U.S., Japan, Great Britain, and Australia in famous fighters such as the F6F Hellcat, the deadly Japanese Zero, and the UK’s Supermarine Seafire. Flyable bombers such as the Aichi D3A1 Val, G4M2 Betty, SBD Dauntless, and A-20 Havoc are also included. Over 40 flyable aircraft models are available.

New! Includes aircraft carriers: For the first time in the 1C: Maddox game series, players will be able to take off from, land on, and engage enemy aircraft carriers in combat.

Accessible to players of all skill levels: With its extensive tutorials and customizable settings, the game will appeal to both beginning and expert pilots. Nearly every level of realism and difficulty can be tuned to fit user tastes.

Award-winning IL-2-style combat-simulation gameplay: As with every product in the IL-2 series, Pacific Fighters offers unparalleled attention to detail. The smart AI, unequaled damage model, and sense of realism combine to immerse players like no other combat flight simulation.

Maps of the most famous battles of the Pacific: 16 new maps are included with famous historical locations such as Midway, Okinawa, Pearl Harbor, and Singapore. Wave movements on the beach, volumetric clouds, and thick vegetation are some of the visual attributes that are rendered in detail.

Attack a vast array of targets ranging from railroads to battleships: Ground objects such as trains, trucks, and tanks can all be pounded from the air. Torpedo historically accurate ships, drop parafrags on enemy airfields, and encounter over 100 other targets on the ground and at sea.

An unsurpassed multiplayer option: Take part in massive live engagements that feature plane formations, numerous ships, and ground troops in a variety of modes from free-for-all dogfights to multiplayer campaigns.

I flew a few hops in FB/AEP last night ans was thinking about PF. With the lethality and volume of the ground fire in FB/AEP I cannot imagine getting anywhere near a cpaital ship in PF. I'm wondering if they are going to 'detune' it some.

Is it an expansion pack like Aces or is it stand alone? Does it install into the IL2 directory like Forgotten battles did?

PF, will include everything from Aces.  It's kind'of like an expansion but Maddoc is claiming it's new.

Its standalone yet also an update. mmm

I think it works like this:

you dont need il-2 to play it its a totally seperate sim in its own right.

but...

if you have IL2-AEP and install over it you get all the AEP planes to use and fly as well.

carriers have rolling decks as well which should make landing fun :D

I keep looking at the screenshots on their website, so far the only thing I don;t care for is the 'wake' or roostertail left in the water by a low flying plane. I'm not saying there shouldn't be one but they seem overmodeled to me.

Its stand alone (you will only get the pac stuff) or an addon to FB/AEP.

I fly FB/AEP quite often and its lotsa fun. Ack will be deadly in PF as it should. In PF when your carier is sunk it doesnt regenterate until the the server is reset.

You will still see many AH type suicide folks trying their best to sink the ships. These types of planes attract these types of folks. They even modelled "Ohka" and post a kamikazi attack in their ss.

Scripted DF servers will be a joke if the the main target is the carriers even with the amount of ack and aa.

Some of the labelling they put on the developement screens is laughable

The call this a "Aichi D3A "Val" dive-bombers"

and this a Mitsubishi A6M "Zero"

Hopefully there will be non scripted DF servers, coops and online wars so we dont have to suffer through those skilled suicide folks.

There's a few films and it would appear that the carrer landings will be no joke. From most of the the films though it appears as if the ships will roll depending on the seas/weather but do not pitch.

Here's and example:

Wildcat

Also in the past few months there have been several test of 64 player df servers.

So folks have trouble adjsuting to the FB/AEP online. In my experience even the 32 man servers offer up more pure df actions that what is currently found in AH.

We have been in fights that just get the heart moving from the deck to 6000m. Its even more fun fighting planes like the p51 and spit because they actually fight rather then just blow through on their way to fly into the ground.

A lot of the things in those screens - if not all- are still in development Karnak.

For example, in one screenshot where a Betty is doing a low pass by some destroyers - they are clearly the Russian destroyers that can be seen in the Crimea QMB map... so they were probably just doing tests or wanted some basic stuff to show what it will potentially look like.

They also state that neither the Kate or Avenger will be flyable (and more depressingly, I've not seen any mention of a Devestater as even AI... but the Avenger is supposed to be flyable in the release version.

Hell, I wouldn't even put money on that November release. If I remember correctly - a little before FB was to be released it got pushed back... and back... and was finally released.

There are a lot of enhancements (smoke, water) in this version - and some new features (openable cockpits - may be better for carrier landing views but thats just a rumor, folding wings, etc)... so this looks like it will be a very nice release for eye candy.

Unfortunately the AI will still suck, and there are a lot of things that could be made scorable or having an influence so online wars could be better run (fuel tanks at fields, factories in cities, etc), and also allow some influence in offline campaigns which would make the moving front line aspect more interesting.

But, Oleg has found his market - the furballing DFers that care little for realism, accuracy, or even depth in a game, and just want to be bad bellybutton top gun fighter pilots.

Are you just repeating the farm bois or do you own the game?

Ami planes are as competitive in FB as in any other.

The problem with ami planes in FB is the same thing you get in Ah. The folks who chose to fly those planes suck 90% of the time and don't know wtf they are doing.

Funny I thought that pretty much sums up the MA these days.

Pretty low to come here, advertise another product and take cheap shots at us too.

If you want to discuss other games, that is fine.  But at least show a modicum of respect and remember what forums you are posting on.

Thank you.
