Can I ask a Question?
« on: September 15, 2004, 06:30:21 PM »
I am posting this thread with Alot of respect to the HTC team.

I will try to chose my words wisely to avoid the censorship, Please, if any members need to reply, reply with a positive  attitude.

To HTC, The screenshots of the KI-84 are awsome. But even better was the explaination of what took place behind the scene, and why.

I believe AHII is on a great track to becoming what IMO people "percieved" it to be. I didn't want to post emediately after with a "When, why, where" post, But I am guilty:(

With some MAJOR steps forward in comparitions of AHII to AH1, It seams IMHO a few steps were taken back. I know "I" also don't know whats coming around the corner and I'm sure there will be Many more major jawdropping things to come, but some things I have a few questions on.

The water to land transitions have taken a backseat, I would take a guess this is just a quick fix, One, ( as a mapmaker ) Really hope could be fixed soon. I know the TE is not a priority at the moment, and have read all the "updated news" I am trying to wait patiently for the new TE, so If I come off alittle annoyed , Ignore it, I'm not. I AM happy for the opportunity to have the TE, but It does need work.
The new tile system is easily understood, will you be accepting new default tiles until it is ready? Or are you close enough for the release?

As new skins are accepted, will you be accepting new skins for Objects, and GV's? Objects Including but not limited to Trees, Flame skins, buildings, etc?

I've Noticed In AH1, some VOID objects when placed give off a different ambient light (shine) when placed. Does this mean objects and/or tiles COULD have different reflective percentages?
If so, could the water lighting be turned up a notch, or even have reflections? If this is being worked on, could you ( no pun intended) reflect alittle light on this subject?

Trees, I read you are reworking these. Great news, to hear, again alittle more info would be a big help to quench my curiousity. Since I've reskinned all of the trees.

With the fields now grouped, custom fields are not possible. I can live with that, Will the individual objects be available in the future?

Bridges, Workable over a tile, Will we see this in the future? If not could we get object parts we can reskin and use to build custom objects? Uhmmm, like a bridge?

Clutter, There were different tree types in AH1, AH2 has the same tree just in a different mix and density, will the ability to have different tree mixes be available in the future? And if so will we have the ability to change the configuration, type and pattern?

I Like the different tile transitions that break up the pattern in the new TE, I understand it completely, anyway in the future to limit this to a certain number of tiles besides the whole map? Or the ability of the mapmaker to have more of a say in the pattern?

Shallow water, I know we will see this in the future, Yes here comes the dreaded no-no's of all questions...... When?

How about a "free" tile added to the TE so we can use it where, when, IF we want? Yes, more "COAD" but with the ability for US to reskin and use it, opens up many, many more possiblities and uses. Shallow water, Sand dunes, or even to "break up' the monotone of the land water transitions ( I've done this in the past for "Pearl")

Back to the water and water land transitions. I believe this is IMHO where the new TE is lacking the most.

Maybe this belongs in the TE forum, more exposure here, and if you choose to answer, I'm sure many people would love to also read your reply.

Thanks in advance for taking time to read this.

I wanna splash when I ditch at sea. I wanna see my plane sink and if I don't get out fast enough I die. I want smoke in the cockpit when the plane catches fire. I want .... a visible tailhook, dammit. I wanna be able to hit structures and have a slight chance at living (then again, maybe I do ... hmmm). I want to bail out and see my plane still plummeting. Better yet ... want that to happen to the other guy.

Well .... that's just what I want. I'll settle for less. I have so far. :D

i flew a goon too close to the tree tops yesterday and distinctly heard the noise (like if you drag a wing on the floor during a bad landing) of my wing hitting the tree. it was at such a low speed and such a light brush that i recieved no damage at all......untill about 5 mins later when waiting for the town to be dropped, and a spit found me parked on the ground :D
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

I made the exact same comment to HT during the beta, and was told that eye candy would be coming. And thought fair enough best to work on more important things like FM and bugs. But I guess that was over 6 months ago now.

I know it's just eye candy and us "real simmers" lol, just care about a good FM etc. But really the flat blue ocean and basic terrain really do take away from the experience of it all.

Shame as the planes themselves actually look pretty good.

1. You will not be able to make a custom field via the TE as in AH1, or add lots of random objects. The system can have a few isolated objects, like the shore batteries.

2. Im currently working on the object editor, This editor will make the custom fields and tiles . It basicly ships with it's own set of library shapes, then makes one completed airfield or tile shape to be used in the TE.

3. Yesterday was doing a lot of looking at 3d editors. Currently Im leaning twords3DCanvas.

http://www.amabilis.com/products.htm

IT's API is VBScript. Anyone interested in doing a little programing so I don't have to come up to speed on VBScript please contact me. Basicly just need a export to ASCII script written.

I would then make a converter part of the object editor so you could make your own custom shapes.

4. Havn't given beaches a lot of thought yet.

Excuse a very noobish question from a noob.

But with the TE and OE the content created is it just for H2H mode or can it be submited to HTC for review and addition to the map rotation?

Thank you for the Update, I appreciate it.
The Beaches, I would assume have an alpha channel, by the looks of the transitions. That led me to ask for an additional random tile.

Again Thanks for the update.

the TE ( Terrain Editor) is available for all to build a custom map. It can be used for hosting a H2H or under stricter guidelines you could submit a map to HTC for approval for MA play. The CT is also looking for maps.

The TE forum would be a good place to start looking for advice and tricks. I would first suggest you read threw all the old post to learn some things, then trial and error and experience. Just don't give up, and post any questions in the TE forum and many will offer an answer.

One of the biggest reasons I love Aces High. Hitech is willing to listen, and welcomes any input from the community. Something the arrogant folks at that other ww2 sim seem to ignore.
