To All Luftwaffe Squads: A Russian Challenge
« on: January 08, 2001, 03:44:00 PM »
The 5th Guards Fighter Air Regiment (5 GIAP) is challenging any squads of the Luftwaffe to a duel.  Details are open to negotiations.  The only criteria right now is that we cannot duel until February.

Perhaps, Bolshavik.

I am discussing this with the other members of my staffel perhaps we can arrange a duel.

What are the rules? Alt? Merge restrictions, etc?

You can email me through the email given in my profile.

Ok, just for something for me to do here's a set of RoE for your little duel:

1: Fighters will merge at 13k, guns will be COLD. Alt 1: Guns go hot on call from Ref riding along in squad CO's plane.

2: Victory is classified as either side landing three or more aircraft in flying condition. Any less and the Duel shall be repeated (best 2 of 3).

3: Choice of aircraft is left up to the Duel CO's. No deviation will be accepted. (Example: LW chooses Fw190s, but two guys up in Bf-109s.) To deviate from this rule means disqualification.

4: Loser will send HTC one bottle of their choice (as given in HiTech's profile "For Bribes"). Supplied booze bust account for the total drinking members of HTC, meaning one bottle per person. This info shall be supplied by HTC. OR pay the winning squad's Aces High bill for 1 (one) month. Choice is up to the Duel CO's.

5: Interuptions by non-participating person(s) will halt the Duel, regardless of current standings or actions. This means the Duel may be stopped at any time by the Ref even during combat. Duel shall resume after the offending party(s) have left or moved to another area.

6: I'm doing this because I'm bored out of my skull!   Some day off.

Is gambling arranged?
If so, I'll put my bet on Bolsheviks.

I would recommend a special terrain.  It was talked about but I don't know if anybody ever put one together.  To avoid problems, what is needed is a special terrain with two fields.  The fields need to be owned by the same team to take ack out of the picture.  Both fields should be at 10k and be in close proximity to each other.  The immediate area should be bounded by 40k mountains.  Then you just line both teams up on the runways and call "fight is on".  After that, anything goes.  I'd also do it in the TA or the SEA and get the fuel multiplier to nothing to avoid the "running the other guy out of gas" problem.

Trust me guys when I say that you MUST keep this as simple as possible.  If it is possible to work up a terrain like this for dueling, that's the way to go.  If not, search out the current terrain for something decent in the TA and limit folks to within certain sectors.  Have a referee fly on each side to watch the sectors and warn folks if they get close or call a halt if somebody steps over the line.  (Better to make the team that steps over lose that round by default to be fair.)

Merging at certain alts with guns cold and referees just won't work.  Between eager pilots and net lag you will have problems every time.  I've been through this enough times to know.  (If anybody remembers the infamous first WB squad duel tourney, you'll know what I mean.  I was the last guy flying in the highly contested fight where the enemy decided to run me out of gas instead of fight my P-38 that only had one engine.)

No, Camo, thank you!  We'll be back to fight you Finnish berserkers before too long.  Just thought we should go after the buggers who burned my house in Zhitomir
