With the improved interior graphics that AH2 will have as recently shown on the upcoming Ki-84 I had a thought regarding the interiors of multi crew aircraft.

Would it be possible to show the other members of the crew?  It seems to me that when sitting in the pilot's seat of a B-17G or Ki-67 you should have the co-pilot alongside you and the engineer behind you.  From the waist gun position you should see other gunners.  All of the multi-crew aircraft have the same thing to one degree or another.

It would convey the cramped conditions of these aircraft a lot better.  Right now the B-17G, Ju88A-4, Ki-67, ect, ect feel a lot roomier than they were.

It seems to me that, from a graphics standpoint, the other crew members are at least as important as more detailed and moving flight controls.

That is a good point, Karnak.    It would add to immersion to see your copilot sitting there.

I’m afraid the hits to frame rate would be too much and if you map your head positions to look out of the plane, at least in the cockpit, you’ll never see the copilot because you’ll have your head pressed against the window beyond him.  In the B-17 for instance, the right view is well past the copilots location.

Also, I’d rather see them use their resources on the terrain editor or making new planes or even replacing the menus on the clipboard with drop down or popup menus similar to browser menus.  I just think there are lots of things that should come before mapping graphics of the crew. No offense intended.
Easy in-game again.

It was done in AW, it was done in Aces of the Pacific.

the cool thing was that in AOTP, when your gunner died, you could look back and he was slumped over his gun.

I always remember in AW when you looked to the right in the goon or other bomber, the copilot was there always looking out the right window.

Easy I'm not sure about this, but how would it affect frame rates? Right now, if you are in the TA or H2H or whatever place ext. views are enabled.. do you notice a frame hit when you zoom in far enough for the pilot to "appear?"

Im just guessing, but the other crew members would just be another texture graphic.

Sure if the co-pilot or gunners were expected to move around and respond to control functions, sure.. that might cause a frame rate hit. But i think Karnak wsa just asking for other crew members to just be displayed, not be a "working" part of the game experience.

Easy~
Are you saying the servers don't have the {Horse Power} for the added graphics, or the Individual's machine? In the case of the later, make it tunable. Say {Crew-Off} {Crew-On}, or something in between. Just a suggestion!

Hey, I admit I'm just guessing on this.  I've always been surprised at how quickly graphics could be rendered and I haven't kept up with modern graphics capabilities.  It’s staggering how many polygons were reported drawn during some of the beta testing and the game was still playable.

Now then, if you up more then 4 or 5 formations, some people start having problems.  If you add 9-11 more objects per plane x 3 planes, my guess is that's a 10-20% increase in the graphics load for each bomber and maybe 1% overall for the pilot.  When a dozen 110g2s are diving into our bomber group, and my system occasionally stutters now, the last thing I want is to increase that load for objects inside the planes.

I'm probably wrong about the loads considering the moving controls that are being added to the cockpits. I'm guessing again but it looks like around 7 more object to draw for each fighter and maybe x3 per bomber formation.  Don't misunderstand, I like the new cockpit upgrades Hitech is coming out with and the moving controls have generated a lot of positive feedback.  My position is that only the bomber guys will really see crewmembers and as cool as it might be, some of us MAY suffer for their presence.

Where I  think the game has the most potential to look better, and where I’m currently focused, is on the exterior skins and the terrains where I see a lot of possibilities for eye candy.  Most of those changes will add to the graphics load but that's were I think a 1 or 2% hit is well worth it.

Now just watch, the new bomber will come out with crewmen at every position.:D

O, man...where's a screenshot of the nerd co-pilot in the one of the bombers in Air Warrior when you need it?!?

Painted co-pilots, gunners seems like a waste of resources at this point, IMHO.  They don't move & add no real function to the game.

The big thing I would like is the slumped over the gun gunner when hit or at least some blood or something to show that the gun has a problem. maybe a broken gun??
