Yep, love it so far.

The battles are so much better than MTW was... the little people running around look so much cooler.

I like the "senate mission" type gameplay so far.

I don't like the fact that a couple of my cities seem to be bottomless pits of money-loss, I can't figure out how to make em gain money.  But most of my cities make a little money, so I don't lose money over all.

It is a very fun game though, I would be playing it right now except I had to go carry a ****ing dresser up two flights of stairs for my sister, who then called to say she had bought the wrong one, so I am over here watching my nephew so she can go get the right one.  Which I then have to carry up two flights of stairs.

Do you mind?  Nooooo, of course not.  You numb ****, you knew I'd mind when you called me.

I started playing it yesterday. Other than the graphics on the battles, which are truly outstanding, I don't find it groundbreaking the way Medieval was (I never played Shogun).

There seems to be a fair bit of quirky stuff in the campaign game, like your home cities rebelling VERY easily.  Also, the tax rates in my conquered cities keep changing on their own, even though I'm not in auto-manage.  Whenever I take some army units out of a city the tax rates get jacked up sky high, pretty much insuring a rebellion.

It's a lot of fun though;  I was up until Midnight and thought it was still about 8 pm.

Yea, I've noticed the tax rates changing in some cities too, but I haven't had any rebellions break out.  I'm playing as the red guys in Northern Italy, I've conquered Sardinia and some small piece of southern france... trying to clear the smelly Gauls out of Europe south of the Alps :).

I think the strategy map is outstanding and a big improvement over MTW, especally since they got rid of the hex like board.

The battles are great and the new 3D units good to watch, but I can't help but think that everything moves a bit too fast especially compared to MTW's batles. One thing that's good to see is how effective archers are. MTW I never use to bother with them other then Lonbows. Archers in RTW are awsome.

Another thing is system performence, running at 1280x1024 everything maxed out and it's smooth as silk so far in the 3D town battles though yet to build up to a stage with 1000's troops either side as still trying to clear up all the Gauls.

By the way if you want to get rid of those green markers under your troops when selected find this line in your preferences.txt should be located in the main RTW directory and change.

DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS:FALSE

And change it to this:

DISABLE_ARROW_MARKERS:TRUE

Brilliant game, and the details of troops zoomed are amazing!
Sometimes the senate missions are at odds with my "strategic" aims, which really makes you think through your long term aims..

If you guys want some more competitive play come on over to TWL. Its a place to setup matches, teams etc..

I play ravenshield and its our main method of setting up ladders and tournaments/leagues..

Kinda preferred medieval stuff more ;)

Runs surprisingly smooth on my system; XP1600 512mb GF Ti42 ultra.

Unfortunately haven't been able to use the A64 3000+, which lays at the corner of room.

My son is geting this for his birthday. Never took to RTS games much but have to give this a try.

Isn't Half Life 2 a load of old pretend b***cks with Rome, Far Cry, Call Of Duty, Unreal Tournament 2004 all shipping without all that fuss and non-appearance!

And a much better game for your son then Half Life, atleast he will learn alot about Roman history as well as having a great time.

The strategy map is still turn base and pretty indepth only the battles are RTS. And they are a blast. Especially when you get to use flamming pigs against war elephants I couldn't stop laughing when I watched the effects of that first time around.

Great game, think it would have to be one of or maybe even the best strategy title ever released. Only point I could complain about as that while the battles are great they may be a little too fast and require slowing down a tad and that generals charge too often and get killed too easily.

I don't think the cities rebell to easily, I've only ever had one do this and that was because I had to pull the troops out for a battle. Same as MTW key is to keep the public order at or just over 100% so don't over tax them and make sure you have plenty of troops (town watch) to help keep the public disorder down.

Tax rates in conqured cities will change if you don't have a governor in them as you have then have to leave the city on auto, but you can adjust it between focusing on military build up,growth, financial etc. I initially leave mine on growth as it keeps the populace happy untill I can recruit more town watch.
