Soviet Havoc
« on: September 26, 2004, 10:10:50 AM »
I've uploaded my latest skin to The Skin Department. It is a Soviet Havoc based on this profile that Airmess kindly found for me. I'd like to find out a bit more about this particular aircraft. So if there are any Russian speakers reading this, a translation of the text would be appreciated.

I've had to muck around quite a bit to dodge the numerous bugs on this skin, so there are a few oddities and omissions here and there.

I usually never post here but... the detail on that plane is incredible!

Skinners should take a look at this skin and add it onto the list of what to base their skins on...

Nice work! :aok

Thanks for the kind comments guys. I finished the panel lines and colour scheme a week or so ago and it looked really boring, just olive drab and grey. I couldn't find a solid nosed Soviet A-20G with a two tone or winter scheme so I decided to go to town on the weathering instead, glad you like it.

Cit, all my skins since the Hellcat have been built in 2048 by 2048 res. It makes panel lines, rivets etc. look a little less harsh IMO. The drawback is that 1 pixel lines can sometimes look too faint when the skin is reduced in size. On the Havoc I made the fuselage lines 2 pixels and the wings 1 pixel, since the fuselage is bigger relative to the wings in the skin.

Greebo, did you see the thread requesting a Russian Boston?

I have some interest, but it may be months before I get around to it.  You may be able to attack it sooner, if you're interested.

I missed it, I've not been in here much recently. Squire put a request out for Soviet skins a month or so ago for SEA events. He preferred the A-20G over the Boston when asked, which was why I started with this one.

I will be doing Soviet Bostons, probably one winter and one summer. There are a few changes needed to the G skin though, its not just a question of a new colour scheme. My plan was to do three more Gs before starting on the Boston, but I can change that. How quickly do you need it?

I may be wrong but I think the poster meant Soviet A-20s in general rather than just Bostons. Unless there's some pressing reason (i.e. a scenario) I'll stick to my original schedule, Havocs first and Bostons next. Shouldn't take too long now I've got the basic skin done.

Dokgonzos scenario needs:

Boston III in the RNZAF 22 squadron paintscheme
FM2 in the RAAF 21 squadron Buffalo paintscheme
F4F-4 in the RNZAF 488 squadron Buffalo paintscheme

would you be able to do a couple quickies? :)

Here's one profile picture from the Boston III shot down in the Finnish front 14. October 1943 by Antti Tani:

I am making the winter FinRus terrain in the near future, so are you interested to create this one? ;)
