Eruptions are too infrequent, what we should really do is harness the power of geothermal energy by setting up stations near volcanos that can tap into the relatively easy to get to heat.

Maybe something like a closed loop system with sodium or something more exotic being run at high pressures through banks of turbines?

The energy released  in the May18th, 1980 eruption was the equivelent of 24 megatons thermal energy (7 by blast, rest through release of heat)
