not that i'm putting the man down but didn't he fall asleep during a debate?  I remember seeing that on TV once.

I agree with most of what you have said. Perot was probably amazed at the support he got. He originaly was on Larry King and said he would run if he was put on the ballet in all 50 states......then he WAS! I'm sure he didn't exspect that.

Perot was VERY popular and may well have won.

I think that was an SNL bit. They rode Stockdale hard.

That was a funny bit ! Perot driving a car, telling Stockdale to get out to check something.....then trying to take off and ditch Stockdale....only to have the old guy running along side the car at great speed! Was funny, great analogy.

It could be true he nodded off...could ya really blame him? Jeezus H. Christ, the man survived hell on Earth in Hanoi. Was he really supposed to stay awake while Quayle was talking?

Yeah, the Carvey/Hartman bit was an instant classic. "Look! There's a deer! Yep, there's one of nature's wonders. Why don't you get out for a closer look!"

It was weird, whatever happened.... but it was the Veep debates so I prolly wasn't paying too much attention but, wasn't the whole thing a result of his hearing aid being turned off?

Like, him staring down because he didn't hear the question. Looked like he took a nap.

Could be wrong, but I remember something like that...

Once again....Nash to the rescue. I kinda remember something about his hearing aid because they had beaten him so badly they burst his eardrum and caused permanant hearing damage. Seriously, Stockdale should never have been rolled out to the jackals. He was a portrait of a moral, honest, patriotic American. Something that Perot thought politics was lacking.
