Ok, Ive fediddleing had it.

This is not AH specific but I cant fly AH until this is fixed.  I know weve got a fair share of knowledgable people here so I thought Id through this problem out for you.

I "lose" my internet connection every 15 seconds or so, for about 15 seconds, then it comes back for 15 seconds, rinse and repeat.

My computer doesnt recognize whatever is happening as a lost connection, but no information is sent or recieved during the "off period."

I cant seem to nail down the problem - it started about a week ago - and its driving me nuts.

Router/Modem have been reset, etc, etc - the usual stuff doesnt seem to want to work and all Comcast can tell me is "Hmm... something is wrong... looks ok now... wait... hmm..."

Ideas?  Any more info you need?

Thanks.

How about having Comcast replace the modem?

I know how frustrating a flaky Internet connection can be, but unfortunately your ISP is the only one that will be able to solve this problem (unless there is something bizarre in your computer causing it).

I had a problem similiar to this.. I thought I had a bad modem.. It turned out that my chair was on my coaxial cable and had broken the solid wire in the center..  The broken wire really gave the kinda intermediate connect problems that drive one mad.. haha

Thats a good point.  Even if your cable is out of the way and doesnt seem likely as a culprit, cable can be damaged when you buy it or have it installed, and not show up significantly for some time.  I had that happen when we moved into our new place.  The cable company tech installed new cable in every room.  For some reason the TV in the living room had bad reception.  Changed out the coax and it worked fine.

Try powering down the cable modem (unplug the darned thing) and wait for five minutes and then replug the cables and power supply.  Call Comcast tech support and have them send a remote cablemodem reset signal .  Then go to pcpistop.com and test your upload and download speeds.   I hope this helps.

All the Best...

Flash your router to the latest firmware if you haven't already. It fixed my random disconnect problem for a few other games.

A couple of questions:

1. does this happen only in AH or does it happen while just doing normal web surfing?

2. I'm assuming you have an ethernet cable modem as USB is a bad thing as stated here.

3. If you lose it outside of AH does your ethernet adapter report that it's disconnected? You'll see the little computers icon in the task tray with a red X.

4. Have you tried replacing the ethernet cable (assuming yes to 2) from your PC to the cable modem?

5. Are you using a cable/dsl router between your PC and your cable modem? One of my field offices has DSL with a Linksys router and the project managers notebook would not connect when plugged into the docking station but would if plugged into the on board ethernet port. Very frustrating problem. Turned out to be a flakey ethernet port on the router. Replaced the router and everything was fine.

I don't recall if you said if you're using a wireless connection or not, but our cordless telephone will kill our wireless computer connection if you take the phone between the computer and the phone base.  It used to frustrate me until we figured it out. Now, we just use the laptop in a room without a cordless phone.

Also, we have cable internet (Cox).  When i first signed onto AH, I would get CTD's about 3-4 times an hour.  Finally talked the cable copany into coming and checking the line, and they found that the connection box on the side of the house was bad.  Replaced it - no problems since then.
Hope this gives you some other ideas to check out.
