tried the CT for the first time
« on: October 29, 2004, 08:29:16 PM »
Well I tried the CT for the first time tonight. There were about 20 people logged on.  I got my head handed to me every time but I managed to get a few hits in. I got to fly a few planes I've never tried before - P-40s, Hurri II, Yak. I pretty much stunk with them all, but I had fun. I liked the P-40B.

I have a CT etiquette question - I came across two planes fighting it out. My first reaction was to dive right in and help so I gave a "check six" and attacked. The enemy plane broke off and turned into me. The guy I tried to help wound up helping me and shot the plane down (THX REDD). Anyway, was this the right thing to do? If you see two planes fighting it out in the CT should you join in or not. It only came to me later that these guys may have been enjoying their "knife fight". How do you know if it's ok to barge in? I could have sent him a message but he looked a bit busy to type back. What's the right thing to do?

You can hit the F12 key to the radio VOX and ask over the mic. But pretty much you can join in the fight. Shoot sometimes its 5 on 1 in there.. Alot of fun and at times the plane set is set up to be competitive to you knowning what your plane is good for.

The CT is a fun arena.. Come back and fly some more...

i'd say ask on country ch if you can and if he can answer

if i am one on one pls do not interrupt, best to stay out of icon range as not to distract anyone

... you can jump  in and finish him after he shoots me down :)

Always join in if you feel like it.  If your fellow countryman had a handle on things, the bad guy would have already been dead.  There are a number of folks that will complain if you join a fight, but the truth is you will usually end up saving them more often than not.  What can happen is you’re asked to stay out so you watch for a few minutes, two bad guys show up, your friendly dies, and then all of a sudden you are 1:3 when it could have been 2:2 had you helped clobber the guy.  Or, the bad guy has a faster plane and just runs away.

If you ever see me, never ask, just jump in.  Even if I’ve got a guy smoking and missing a wingtip, I won’t mind if you finish him off and get the kill.

There are a lot of great 1:1s in the CT, some last for several minutes and are a blast.  Anyone who seeks them exclusively, however, should go to the DA.

I agree with Eskimo, unless it is someone I know ahead of time that is having a 1 v 1 set up by them, I just jump in. After you spend some time in the CT you will get to know the guys who regularly fly there, and you will know who is likely to want you to stay out. Until then you might ask first, but most folks are like me and dont mind if you just jump right in and help.

simple rule in the CT.

If the con isn't dead then go ahead and jump and if he gets all pissy that you stole his kill then tell him to piss off.

RFOL!!!!:rofl

Yeah, that's probably the easiest. It's what I do:

"Hey Storch, need a hand... oh, wait, was that your wing? Oh.. he's leaking fuel now... yep that was his oil. Wow, looks like his rudder, oops, his left wing tip, yep Storch, that was his right elevator, and his right wing tip,  ooouu his radiator is busted, hey, he's on fire now, ooou, that looked painful... heh... I can hear him scream like a little girl with a spider in her hair all the way to the ground....

and if your the one in the fight and you see a friendly otw, and you want to duel it out with the guy, try to quickly say your ok on range

I found myself in a good one on one awhile back, I started with advantage over the guy, he made some nice lag rolls and it developed into a scissiors fight, me Hellcat, him Seafire...
he eventually was able to saddle up on me, but at about 800 and not gaining ground

few moments later..

Fish showed up and asked if i needed a hand, I hesitated my reply, cause it was a fun fight, then said "sure", Fish came in, con never saw him and was blown away, I still feel a bit guilty for that
;) but thanks Fishy

Hiya 63tb

Hope you had fun.

I sometimes ask , but sometimes just jump in if it looks close. Feel free to jump in anytime if you see me , that's fine.

I remember learning a lesson on this in CT  early on , I stayed out of a 1 on 1 waited to see the result. My countrymate got killed so I started fighting the guy that killed him, of course, another enemy turned up, dived  straight in and  killed me HO in 1 pass.

I swore I'd never hesistate to jump in from then on.

i would like to add, tho',

anyone who actively avoids 1 v 1's should also go to the DA.

Glad you enjoyed your visit to the CT. Hope you come back soon and bring a friend along with a keg and a few plates of pork ribs. That tends to get the guys a little easier to talk to instead of everyone just getting pissy when you jump in on an ego fight....BUT those are extremely rare in the CT and those ribs and beer need to head to the Birmingham, AL area where we all meet for CT flights each night. Thanks for the beer and ribs.
