Ouch.  Mighty severe response there, chaser.
I've been around the CT long enough to observe many facets of Shane.

The flames back and forth that I've seen are generally as a result of Shane calling others names, particularly when he gets shot down, and the recipients of his insults not taking it very well.
Perhaps his name-calling is his way of helping, and you see it that way, as well?   I don't.

I have, once or twice, seen him offer honest advice in the text buffer, without an associated slam. ... But I think most of his well-intended assistance probably comes in the DA, not the CT -- which is what this thread was about, I thought.

Nevertheless, I don't want to pollute 63tb's thread with a hijack on Shane's manners or lack thereof.

His most recent response is pretty much in line with what I posted on 63's question above.
When you encounter a 1v1 away from the crowd in the CT, it's just a good idea to ask before diving in to offer 'assistance.'  The other friendly might not feel he needs it, and you could be spoiling his fun.   Just ask.  No biggie.

Again, 63, welcome to the CT.  It's generally a fun place to play.

I'd say just do what you feel is best, dont worry about the rest.  For myself, as long as I am high enough above or far enough away from an ongoing 1v1 I will usually just circle the fight and watch.  If the guy on my side gets into trouble and he asks for help, I'll dive in, but otherwise its his fight and I leave them to it.  If the bad guy wins I'll give him a second to get himself level and take a breath and then I'll jump in on him.  If its a furball, or if the guy from my side is outnumbered, I go in full throttle and WEP and try to shake any bogies off his tail before jumping into the fight.  I dont worry about taking time to saddle up on the target in that case, I just zoom in at the best speed I can manage and try to put the bullets close enough that he will see them and break off.  Then I'll climb out and start fighting.

I guess what I'm sayin is, you will see several tips on how to approach the situation you described.  It all boils down to fly how you like and how your conscience dictates.  When you learn how to salute someone and flip them off at the same time, you'll fit right in.  :D
