Sorry to hear about those French soldiers. Lets hope the UN steps up to the plate this time.

I think you're mixing up Vietnam and Korea there. The Vietnam War was in no way a UN action (you think Russia and China would have voted for that?).

Correct, but instead it was a NATO(which is basically UN minus the Commies) action as was Korea.

No. NATO had nothing to do with the Vietnam War or the Korean War. NATO's first military action was in Bosnia assisting the UN with warplanes.

Nice Try, but try again there bud

And the genocide in Sudan and the Iranian nuke situation. Here's a chance for the UN to act in a meaningful manner.

What should they do? Will they do anything?

Perhaps the real solution would be for the AU to provide an african solution and provide a combined peacekeeping force

The rest of the world will be watching how this unfolds.

France's U.N. Ambassador Jean-Marc de La Sabliere said he will draft a resolution to impose an arms embargo on Ivory Coast

Paris also will seek to impose U.N. sanctions against those blocking the peace process, violating human rights and preventing the disarmament of fighters, he said.

Oh the sweet justice in this irony(apart from the loss of life, no laughing matter)  Disarm the insurgents!!!!!  Oh wait, maybe they are just freedom fighters... lol.
