8 French killed in Ivory Coast

First of all, my sincere condolences to the families of these men and to the people of France for this loss.

The Ivory Coast situation is one where the UN/SC seems to have basic agreement. It will now be interesting to see what is done. Will the UN act more forcefully? Will the UN withdraw?

The Iran/nuke situation is clearly not moving in the direction the UN would desire. That is another interesting thing to watch, given all the advice freely offered on the NK nuke situation.

The Sudanese genocide is also clearly not moving in the direction the UN would desire.

I'll be watching the IC to see if the UN has decided to take a more active role in the world today.

How many deaths of "innocent civilians" will the United Nations accept to bring stablity to the region?

And, BTW, I'm very sorry to hear about the deaths of the French solders.  They were following the orders of their Government in a dangerious place and time.

If this had happened to US troops the Democrats would be holding hearings on why there weren't already Mirages there.  Just sayin.

Sorry to see the loss of life there. But I can't wait to see how Chirac and the UN handles this. I can hear the phone in the White House ringing now.

lol

Stage,

The French were in Vietnam first and couldn't handle it...

Vietnam was a UN action not a unilateral US response to communism.

You would be better off comparing it to Iraq but even then take a look who the French and the British handled insurrection in the middle east following World War 1.

Or just take a look at there many actions in Africa, Algeria for one.

How about we the French troopers trying to keep the peace and discuss how the UN handles/should handle this.

And the genocide in Sudan and the Iranian nuke situation. Here's a chance for the UN to act in a meaningful manner.

What should they do? Will they do anything?
