i find it disturbing that they would censor any historical type war movie.

Ill start by saying that I think "Saving rivate Ryan" is a great movie, it shows the invasion of Normandy like no movie before it, I also think its a good movie to show on vetrans day.

With that said I do understand some of the reasoning behind the decisions to not air it. This movie although very moving is still an action war movie. The authenticity of the movie ends with the storming of the beach, after that its just a story. The series "Band of Brothers" is very historical and accurate and can be used as a teaching tool. This movie unfortunatly can not be, unlike "Schindlers list" wich was aired uncut with no protest, because no matter how you look at it its still fiction.

I am watching the movie myself right now and am very moved by it, not matter how many times I watch it that will always be the case. I compare this movie to "Pearl Harbor" only in that they both pay tribute to American heros but after that they are still works of fiction.

P.S. - I am in no way saying Pearl Harbor was as good as Saving Private Ryan.

I bought a copy a long time ago. My father walked the ground. Bless him and all Vets. I wouldn't want my grandson watching it, but the network could show it after family programming. Very good movie.

Something else id like to ad, does anyone else get a different feeling when watching war movies that deal with ww2 or before than when the watch movies about more recent conflicts. When I see a movie like "Black Hawk Down" or a movie based on the Vietnam Conflict I feel this anger build up inside of me. When I watch them I just hate the enemy with a passion and I get so upset. When I watch movies dealing with older conflicts I get emotional and they touch me but I dont feel a hatred for the enemy. I never watch these movies and hate the germans, I had lots of family that fought in the war but I still dont feel that anger.

I dont know if its because im too young to have those feeling and with the more recent conflicts I can relate. But I think its deeper than that, to me I see the Nazis as the enemy but an enemy with honor who were doing what their country to ask. Anyone else have the same thoughts or have something else to add.

I read a really good oped about how "outdated" the FCC is. (i'm reciting from memorty here so bear with me)

It was orriginally implemented when Radio first came about. The reason for it was the fact that there were very few stations broadcasting for the longest time. If the one station started spewing out all kinds of blather they could have an influence on ALOT of people in a short amount of time with out any competition or alternate views.

Thus the FCC was born to regulate the newborn radio market. After a while they jumped into broadcast TV as well.

Nowadays there is SOOOO much out there in almost everystate the real reason for having them now is outright censorship/thaught police. Myself I think there should be Rating standards and that's it. If there's something in a rating that I don't want my kids exposed to I won't let them watch it. That's were it should start and stop.

I've never actually watched all of Saving Pritvate Ryan. I've heard its a good movie.

The landing scene was a little too much. I had to walk away and drink more beer.

They showed Schindler's List with nudity. Why the poosy-footing around with this movie?

It would not have aired edited anywhere. Because of the contract signed, it was either air it or don't, no in-between.

They only censor the swearing in finnish here. And the reason is more to "save" the drivers face than to protect the public. For example Gronholm is usually censored as almost his every other word is a C- or S-word.
