Eve Online is still $2.99 at Big Lots with a month free included, if you can find it.  It's better than paying $19.99 for the download.

Anyone picked up EQ2 yet?

Just for the hay of it, what kinda machine would be needed to play all the games that are out there?  ok , maybe not all, if there's some crazyprettythang putting out a game way above the norm, but let's say the 'majority' of them there games?

BTW Gixer, I was looking for American Airlines something or other, and accidentally hit the Virtual American Airlines site. Them folks take that sim pretty seriously boy.

Yeah all the Virtual Airlines are a bit different, some serious e.g exact planes, exact routes and they'll let you know if your not operating the plane to it's optimum fuel efficency. Some VA's have a very long recruitment procedure and all have a check ride test of one sort or another. And some you have to sit two or three 1 hour exams and a good pass mark before they will even consider you. All good though as it keeps the pilot quality high and the consolers out.

I've been studying the Ready For Pushback 742F for a few weeks now in preperation for their VA exam. Incredible plane, detail is amazing.

Hey Gixer,

what is the link for vatsim is it a .com?  Only thing I can find on at vatsim.com is a search engine type thing telling me where to buy stuff.

I am preping for my IFR test and would love to go through some virtual scenarios etc online.

http://WWW.VATSIM.NET

Once you get it hooked up, post a message in the forum that your doing your IFR test and one of the controllers will probably get in touch and hook up some scenarios for you.

Alot of the controllers are real world ATC as well or alteast been trained in that was a minimum.

Or if you can't be bothered with the to setup Vatsim go for Radar Contact V3  excellent ATC addon for FS2002 or 2004 and much better then the default MSFS ATC. You can call fuel emergancies and different procedures.

If you choose a local airport to practice on makes it very interesting. I practiced alot with NZAA and the SID,STAR routines.

Best of luck with the IFR Test. Being a helo pilot we just land when it get's too dark to see.  :D

If you need a tutorial, then go to "Pilot resource center" on the VATSIM site and register. Then take the "Basic Pilot Training" course. It covers everything from setup to your first VFR and IFR flights.

I downloaded all the Vatsim stuff, but cannot figure anything out!

It sure ain't like AH where you log in and everything sets itself up for you.

Mars, if you figure it out, let me know.

Wolfala is (Was?) a controller with eskyworld.  I'm not sure if he still is or not but I've got a handle on things using them and their program.  I'd be happy to keep an eye on your progress and help you with your IFR checkride and prep.

It's the best rating you could ever get!

Working on my CFI/CFII so I could use the practice too :D

I'm burned out on flight sims. Thinking about heading back to magic potions and rings etc. Thats the great thing about virtual reality - moving is cheap :D

Brothers in Arms looks pretty interesting.  It is probably the only fps I am really looking at picking up in the next few months.  HL2 maybe but I'm still not that big into bug shooting, alien smashing gaming.  Nothing against it, just never found that I liked it.

I might try it again though.

This is how you setup the software:

Download FSUIPC, SBrelay, SQUAWKBOX 2.3 Beta and SBhost(included in SB?)

Install the software. You need to register FSUIPC with the SQUAWKBOX key code: LWVQ 7I2V 9GPB. When installing SQUAWKBOX, select FS2002 even if you are using FS2004.

This is no mandatory, but will help you a lot:

Download ServInfo program. It's a tool for checking where there are ATC services and pilots. You need it also to export a current serverlist to SQUAWKBOX.

Connecting:

Start SBrelay

Start FS2004

Setup a flight from the airport you want to fly from, with your aircraft NOT in the active rwy.

Select multiplayer connect.

Search for a session.

Connect to SBrelay with your callsign(your tail number).

Open SBhost from the modules menu in FS.

start SQUAWKBOX and enter your callsign, then serch for games(leave the ip field blank), then connect.

You should see the SQUAWKBOX window in FS2004 now. You are not connected to the network yet. You must read the tutorials first and know how to make a flight plan at this point before actually connecting.

I wrote this in haste so there might be some errors, but that's basically all there is to it!
