Tonight I was gunning on a CV and the base it was by was being overrun.
  Would have been nice to turn the CV so we could avoid bombers and get it away from the base but Birdo was either AFK, forgot he had command or was helping the nits at this base sink it.
  Either way there needs to be a limit on the command of the CV's, the rank system does not work well when the above happens.

  Let guys who have rank take control of the CV's but put a 10 or so minuit timer on it when time is up if they still want it then they must take control again. this would at least help the AFK and I forgot I was in command problems.

I'm not sure about a time limit, but I think the commander should be within a sector's distance.   If not, he looses command.

I think both the ideas are good. Put a time limit on it with the stipulation of being no more than a sector or two away.
     But I really don't agree with the whole rank thing.  I can't even begin to count the number of times the squad I'm in is manning the guns on a cv with a friendly umbrella cap. We almost get to where we want to be and we start going somewhere else.
   And guess why? Yup someone 3/4 the way across the map has more rank and wants the cv over there.

That would be nice , come to think of it then you wouldnt have a CV WAY over in the top corner of the map cause someone is hiding it .

You want to take it into a corner to hide it , then you need to stay on it or near it to keep control .

HAv e always beleived if you want to go to the extreme of locking command, the "captain" should actually be on the boat.

Problem is with that is what if he is on the boat and afk?? this is where a timer would help if he wants to lock command then he should be on the boat and have to reestablish command every so often.

Rank  counts.....If you want to control aircraft carriers, get your rank down.

That said, I agree on the time limit UNLESS he is on the ship or operating off of it.   I would NOT want to see a requirement he sit on a ship that has to move 10 sectors to get back into the fight.  

Hmmm, ok, if the ship is under attack, the "captain" has to be on board or operating from it or he gets bumped.

CV's are such fun. When you're trying to takeoff, everybody's got to turn it.  But when a box of Lancs is coming overhead, straight and steady is the key.

If I change a course, I'll usually give up command immediately. There's always an Admiral, rank 1268, who can't resist typing
"GD IT TURN THE CV THE WAY I WANT IT NOW" every five seconds.

I especially love the guys who put it on a suicide run straight up to the enemy base and then are surprised when it gets sunk.

"Well, gosh, all 5 guys in my squad were on it trying to take the base, I just can't believe those Lancs got thru the Otto ack. We thought we'd be okay if we just furballed with them LA7's and Spits. Golly, a bunch of them nme started upping."    

The idea is to keep it out at sea a bit and get ord and  batteries down, then bring it in for cap.  duh, Admiral Fife.

A 10 minute timer is probably not a bad idea no matter where the Admiral is at. I fyou can't coordinate enough between you and your buddies using it to keep someone supporting your cause on the bridge, you probably don't need to be in command anyway.

I always am amazed to see the cv on a straight line into a base, with the red dar bar overwhelming the friendly dar.
The excuse is always - we need it close for the lvt's..
It is always the same tards, as you watch the planes uppin heavy, the bombers and pt boats launching, you shake your head and wait til the next spawn

Agreed, the whole point of CV warfare is standoff attacks. I'd even volenteer to fly CAP over the CV while other attack the base but what's the point of the "Admiral" is just going to park it of the coast and let the buffs swarm in.

In real life no one gets near your CV without a fight, It is your most valuable asset.

10 minute rule works for me. Or maybe a mutiny option. :D

That might make people stop and think a little before sending it on a suicide drive.
