Man, I post one snippet from a song (that I actually like), and y'all just get crazy on it. So might as well throw in my 2 cents while I'm at it.
I don't think there's a white corporate conspiracy. With the current trend of rapper's promoting everything from their own energy drinks, to clothing & shoes, to rims.. what's the difference between buying a pair of Jordan's to be a baller, or a pair of Dada Supremes? Somebody's getting rich off of it, and it's not the consumers. So what does it matter who makes the profit? BUT! I bet you won't ever hear a rap song complaining about black media moguls cashing in. Like it, don't like it, or simply don't care (like me), that's just the way it is.
Now, I'm going to say what I like about racism. It's universal. It also leads to some pretty funny, completely non-PC jokes. I can hang out in a black crowd, and crack jokes about how much I hate white people (I'm white, btw). I can walk up to my black roommate and spit out jokes about fried chicken. I can walk downstairs and sit down with a Chinese salesman, and listen to him go off about much he hates Vietnamese & Cambodians. I can go to lunch with my Cuban friends and see the look of utter disdain on their faces when they have to talk to a Mexican or Puerto Rican. I can hop on a plane, fly back to Dubai, and stand amazed that they practice blatant immigration discrimination against Somalians(sp?), and it's just par for the course there. I can stand next to virtually any American, and make fun of the French... and probably Canadians to, eh?
It's just a matter of time until we're all completely de-sensitized. I long for that day. The day where racism is mainstream funny. Not just "oh, I can't believe he said that!" funny... but par for the course funny. We're gonna get there eventually!
