« on: November 29, 2004, 08:42:32 PM »
I'm sure we've done this before, but the QB thread got me thinking (ouchie!).  If you could put together your best team, who would be on it?

Mine:

Offense
QB - Roger Staubach
RB - Jim Brown
FB - Darryl Johnston
WR - Jerry Rice
WR - Michael Irvin
WR - Randy Moss
TE - Dave Casper
OG - Larry Allen
OG - Gene Upshaw
OT - Anothy Munoz
OT - Art Shell
C - Mike Webster

Defense

DE - Deacon Jones
DE - Reggie White
DT - Bob Lilly
DT - Joe Green
OLB - Lawrance Taylor
MLB - Mike Singletary
OLB - Jack Lambert
CB - Lester Hayes
CB - Mike Haynes
S - Ronnie Lott
S - Jack Tatum

Special Teams

P - Ray Guy
K - Adam Venatari
KR/PR - Brian Mitchell

You got a good list, but I'd pick Winslow over Caspar, Butkus over Singletary (admittedly a tough call,) Lem Barny over Lester Hayes, John Hannah over Larry Allen,Otto over Webster (another close call), Michael Strahan over Reggie White, Buck Buchanon over Bob Lilly, but otherwise you're showing a rudimentary understanding of the NFL.

I will teach you, I will make you understand. I will make you a fan.

OK, so most would believe that list is pretty accurate but now who is going to coach the team. I have to say Marv Levy, with his coaching and that team he would be great.

I can see Winslow very easily.  Especially since I watched his game against the Dolphins where he damn near died.  Or even Ozzie Newsome.  I picked Hayes because he's always been one of my favorite players.  And he and Haynes made such a great pair.  It was a tough choice for me between Lilly and Merlin Olson.  And if I did it again, I might choose Too Tall or even Jack Youngblood (anyone who can play with a broken leg is worth considering) before White.  There's been so many good DE's such as Randy White, Alan Page and Howie Long it's hard to pick just two.  The Otto and Butkus calls are good ones.

Teach me Obi-Won   ;)

I think coaches would be an even tougher call.  Shula, Landry, Lombardi, Walsh, Bum Phillips (that's a joke people), or several others.  Hard to pick.  You might even have to break them up as coordinators.

And if I hadn't picked Jim Brown, I'd have taken Earl Campbell.  With the old-style tear-away jerseys.  :D
