8x AGP
« on: December 02, 2004, 11:21:32 AM »
I'm currently running an AMD Athalon 1.2 with a Geforce 2 mx400 in an AGP slot.  I was looking into getting an ATI 9800 chipset GPU with a AGP 8x slot.  It looks like I have a VIA 694 chipset.  Is the 9800 likely to run in this motherboard?   I know it's a slow CPU and will probably become the limiting factor in the setup, but I'm just wondering if the AGP will still work with the video card.

Thanks in advance

It will work. The card will just work at the AGP speed of the motherboad. AGP 8x cards are compatible with 2x and 4x

The only thing is the 9800 will require more power so be sure you have a decent supply

The cpu will limit the overall improvement given by the card
