Yes in 2 different directory.

Ie :
c:\IL2 : il2 alone with patches
c:\FB : FB + AEP + PF + PF patches. (no need to patch FB and EAP)

I've been toying around with IL2-FB-AEP and whipped up 4 missions based on the book "Missions Remembered" by the Middle Tennessee WW2 Fighter Pilots Association.  I've got a couple more that I want to build based on chapters in the book.  Most of them are pretty simple, depending on how well you can kill a "veteran" 109G2 while flying a P-51B, P-40, or P-47.

My only gripe is that the numberpad view system isn't identical to the one used in AH2. Flight models seem kind of simple, too.  I guess that makes two gripes.

Compared to what? AH and IL2 are very similiar. The P51 in AH is just as easy mode as the p51 in FB.

Are you sure you have the right settings checked?

Fighting against AI even set at expert won't in any way show off the FM of the game. You should get online where its a completely different game. Most off line heros think they got it figured out only to get spanked 100s of times online until they get it worked out.

The combat routines for AI is the same for all aircraft in FB. It uses a simplified universal formula for all planes.

Are you saying the IL2 flight model is different between online and offline?  It's obvious that the AI is in no way going to be comparable to a real person, but if the FM changes thats BS.

The human FM is the same.. unless you go to a server that has certain difficulty options disabled (stalls, or torque, etc).

No I am saying the human FM is the same on or offline but the AI routines aren't complex enough (just like any other game that has AI) or detailed enough across the planeset to take advantage of each aircrafts strength. . As such AI doesn't fly to the strength of the aircraft but does predictable scripted manuevers.

An offline 'ace' doesn't translate into an online 'ace'.

AI will turn fight otd in a Jug against a 109,  or 190s will try to turn wiith la7s...

AI does very predictable stuff.  On the hardest settings it will try like hell to ho you on the merge. It has great gunnery so it will hit you unless you manuever. To defeat it you learn real quick what to do and not to do. After fighting them a few times, no matter what the plane. you can recognize their patterns and easily beat them even at the hardest setting.

Fighting human players, especially ones that half-way know what they are doing is completely different.

So AI will never to as good or unpredictable as a human player.

I will say this though. AI at the hardest setting in FB is a lot harder and more fun to fight then 90% of the bore and zzz'rs in AH but it still can't reach the level of a half-way 'skilled' human player.

" Flight models seem kind of simple, too. I guess that makes two gripes."

Ah the comparisson of simple flight models.

All combat sims have simple flight models otherwise they would lose most of their customers. Some are just a little better then others in the effects department but overall they are all pretty simple. Pretty much just point and fly around the sky which is why I always feel like it's Quake with planes. It's the little things, like dive bombins lances, the engines never overheat (well AH anyway), takeoffs and landings are simple beyone belief, theres never any wind, evironmental effects or weather to worry about. And with practice you can land a 262, goon or a buff on a carrier deck and even better takeoff again.

The only sim that does a little better then "simple" with flight modeling is some of the professional addons for MSFS and with it's environment and weather makes it pretty good. But even then go from that to trying to fly a real 737,747 simulator and you won't have a show of even lining up for the runway let alone landing it. And that's with an instructor on the throttles and controlling everything else.

Oh, and as for "numberpad view system isn't identical to the one used in AH2"

My god those poor guys with Track IR don't know what they are missing compared to a good numberpad view system.

Bit 90's don't you think? :)

TrackIR - yeah, that's what I need. Another piece of flightsim equipment on my desk. ;)

Numpad view rules!

edit: Oh, and yeah, I have yet to stall a P-38 in IL:2, but I do it quite regularly in AH, and always at the worst time.

IL2 online?  Isn't that why I signed up for AH2?  IL2 is my offline trainer for AH2! :p

Actually it sits on top of your monitor.

Numpad is old hat, experience Track IR and it's a  total transformation to any flightsim experience especially one involving ACM.
