In Washington, President Bush, saying it showed that “the terrorists are still on the move,” linked the attack to insurgents in Iraq, where violence threatens elections set for January.
“They want us to grow timid and weary in the face of their willingness to kill randomly, kill innocent people,” the president said.
The State Department, however, chose to emphasize that no Americans had been killed, saying that was a victory for the U.S. decision recently to beef up security at the consulate. “Chalk one up for us against the terrorists,” Adam Ereli, a spokesman for the State Department, said at a briefing.
I hadn't read far enough before to realize the whole thing was actually a U.S. victory.
