GS you are being retarded. Those are FW built planes and the poster clearly identified them. They were used as post war LW trainers, and guess what, they are painted in post war LW markings too and not WW2 markings.

What on earth is yiour problem?

I'm not "constantly" picking on Ghshlotz. In fact I don't pick on him at all.

Actually what is sad is how negative that guy as well as his American fetish. Pages and Pages of his rantings and all I have is a few posts in reply now and then.

Really, I'm on ignore? I'll bet no one knew that.

The funny part is that you manage to read my posts anyway and include my name prominatley in your signature.

Golfer, what are the perf. specs on those planes?  Range?  I'm not looking for some screamer acrobat, but instead something really out of the ordinary.  The FW replica is, being realistic, way out of the range of anything I can afford at over 700k USD.  Not to mention it doesnt have a wiring harness, requires assembly .................. I'd also be interested in your assessment of annual maintenance costs and such.

Honestly, the greatest draw of the FW kit plane was the fact that the entire airframe is brand new.  No stress cracks, no aging or weather related problems to concern me.  Obviously thats something one has to consider if you are buying a vintage bird and intend to fly it.  Hell, wife-ack could still be a factor.  Ive been trying to talk her into a small 2 seater for island hopping, and 50-70k almost made her eyes pop out.  Plus the fact that winds can get pretty high here, and switch directions on you quick.  Alot of small planes end up in the drink.  Beautiful little trainers you got there though.

GS, I'm going to have to call you wrong and I am not going to FL to get the damn airworthiness certificate and dataplate to prove it to you.  It's a Focke Wulf.  I've annualed this particular airplane and some of the design intracies as well as utterly stupidly-simple additions to the airplane are undoubtedly influenced by Kurt Tank's design.  Especially the wing/wingtip.  Go blow smoke up a chimney because my bellybutton is an exit-only and I don't know how many ways I have to prove myself right for you to shaddup.

StarofAfrica-
The airplane definately isn't ordinary!  I have a fair amount of flight time in the blue one and its handling qualities are amazing!  Its smooth, docile and powerful...har har!  Flys with two fingers on the stick, has both left and right seat left hand throttles (so you are a fighter jock no matter which seat you are in) and amazing visibility from the cockpit.

I operated mainly from the owner's private grass airstrip, however we did do some touch 'n go's during my checkout at N. Palm Beach Co. airport and it was a beautiful airplane to fly.  It landed smooth, predictable with an approach ref speed of 90kts.  Handles beautifully on the ground with tight nosewheel steering, I was impressed with this after banging around in Cessnas for 300 hrs.

The owner is a good pilot who would like to move up to something, his eyes scream 'Mustang' so thats what I figure he'll buy.  Couldn't talk him into a flight of 3 folding wing F4F's for Him, Squaddie (IA Mechanic I was working for) and Myself :)  I was impressed with his military-like flying style of quick, but thorough checklist work and amazing (he is self proclaimed anal retentive and he isn't friggin lying) attention to detail.

email me for more information as this is not BBs talk.  I can get you more specs, photos (including one of a 200mph pass 15 feet off the deck that was on the Cover of the Palm Beach Post Sunday July 4th edition) and answer any questions.

He offered to sell me the green one for paper, I don't have much income now and could only manage an insultingly low down payment but would strongly advise you for the blue one so I can buy the green :)

found that flyby pic, trying to post it:

It has a similar engine with similar output. Close enough for me.

I'm OK with the fake engine since you dont  really see the engine. What I'm not OK are the visual alterations to the cowl, though  cerainly not as bad as the Merlin powered spaish 109s it still bothers me...

When you realize that you started urinating before your fly was open, the important thing is to stop the flow, not bear down and squeeze harder.

I didn't say that kurt tank did any design work, I said he may have influenced the wings/wingtips with past designs.  The FW-190 and 149D wingtips are quite similar as are some of the mechanical workings of the aircraft.  I don't mean he touched a design board, simply his past designs influenced whoever designed the 149.

Are you one of these people who have a hard-on for kurt tank?  He designed some nice airplanes but so did Burt Rutan, that doesn't make me his biggest supporter (the Long-EZ is a piece of watermelon with wings).

If you want to know more, either buy one, find one and take the access panels off, peek around inside or restore one and you'll see some of the things that it shaes with the 190.

If you want to get real nitpicky I can talk to you about the screws, type of primer used and no less than handfull of other cleverly simple design features FW made but I won't waste my time.  Wanna talk about the gearing differences with the engines?  I think not.

It's a Focke Wulf, it's made by Focke Wulf, It's Type Certificate says Focke Wulf, the Airworthiness Certificate says Focke Wulf and the flight time goes in my logbook as a Focke Wulf P-149D.  I need not say more.

I'd even venture to say I have more experience than anyone involved with Aces High with the 149D with the exception of the squaddie pictured with the green one.  He's the IA, I'm just the A&P apprentice and aviator putz who puts hours on the things.  So far you've posted pictures, GScholz.  What of experience?

By the way, it's a BMW engine made under contract with Lycoming.  The cylinder caps are Blue with a nice BMW stamped into them.  It's Geared 'up' and the prop spins in excess of 3000rpm.  In fact, the blue restored airplane had to have a special carb built for it because none made today have a big enough hole to allow enough air to pass through.  I know this because I was there to order it and bolted the damn thing on the airplane.
