c205 tips

Last night i flew a sortie in a 205 (which I had not done in sometime) and realized it almost kicks arse... :)

I was at the furball ay 43 / 42 last night as a knight, of course, and came away with 5 kills then I was killed by algyft (ultimate spit driver) but was engaged in a series of tough fights including one against a 109 and niki in which I killed the niki and after some tough edge stall manuvers against the 109 my squaddie in a zeke was able too force the 109 off me.

I've found it slow against most in the main but dives ok climbs ok..........

Folks who fly it how do you approach the fight? With out the ability to disengage at will because of the lo speed do you BnZ only?

Thanks in Advance.........

How did you get those kills? On BnZ passes or in turns?
I have the 205 down preety well. 300mph cruise speed, it can't turn very well, excellent BnZ and zoom climb is good.
I remember seeing a K/D ratio of the 4 Stormo flying 205 and it was like 800/200 i remember one. Would love to join there squad im italian but don't live there: squad time.
See my post below on the same topic

started off Bnz 'd a spit then went in on niki. The niki broke hard I blew thru to re climb. Hi cons were rollin in so i went lvl 8k and extended away from fight. I grabbed to 15k the re-entered fight bounced 2 more in BnZ and again got trapped lo. I again extended away from furball but this time a 109 was in trail along with a hi niki. Both had speed on me. I went into a scissor carefull to keep up speed causing them to ovrshot several times. The niki ovrshot I got good hits along his tail and he lost his vert stab. The 109 came in again and again I went into scissor at this point my squaddie bradys5 joined in in a zeke got a ping on the 109 causing him to break off me. I went into lo yoyo and came in on 109's 5 o'clock at about 500yrds I fired a quick shot but the 109 was much faster and quickly extended and left the area. At this point I should a rtb'd but I grabbed and went in to furball again I bounced another but before I got kill msg a spit was on me and killed me after a short time.

went 5 v 1 but still lookin for advice I guess no one flys 205  :)

I fly the 205 almost exclusivly. Sometimes when i feel like blazing i'll go in a niki or spit. The 205 is a finese plane.
The 4 stormo fellows have some impressive K/D ratio flying the 205.

There are a couple of 205 guys out there. there are 2 Italian squads and most flew the 205 alot! I still see some in them but not like I used too.

Ghosth used to fly the 205 a substantial amount.

When i erncounter a 205 in my P-47 I respect it and if it has an Altitude advantage I genarally avoid the fight and extend till I can fight effectively. I never turn with it, only fast passes making moves to improve my position against him. He accelerates faster than me so I never try to mix it up in a rolling scissors with him or any kind of close contact fight. If I make a mistake there  will be no chance of getting away.

Generally the AC turns "OK" but is much mroe effective in an energy style of fighting. Only use its turn ability against AC that are less apt to turn. Its mauser cannon's are effective close range so make your shots close.

You are a pretty good stick anyway, yoiu prolly have a general idea of all this. If ya want a target dummy in the TA let me know.

I like to use my close in tactis when shooting but sometime its not viable. If your closing in someone you want it to be fast so they don't have time to react. If you fire from far away (600) he will break. You might miss and your hits if any will be weak. But if your closing fast 600 can become 150 (my range) very fast. But in that time he can see u coming in, so you have to surprise him. The key is to surprise people. It is estimated that 70-80% of the people that got shot down in ww2 didn't see their attacker. AH is alot different than ww2, unless maybe in CA. The 205 can do well against any plane if flown well. The only plane yet that i have to kill is La7 or Yak.
Got lucky one time against a La7, because the driver was stupid. To give you a example how well the 205 was used in typical fashion:
On April 20th 1943, 32 1*Stormo 205's bounced 80 spits and P-38s. 18 allies were shot down with the loss of 1 205. They controlled the local air space until the allies brough in overwhelming numbers. I'd say im an "OK" stick.   :)
Hoo boy but if HTC ever decides to model the Re 2005 or Fiat G55  - watch out!
What ac you normaly fly, besides 205?

most of my questions originate from my lack of knowledge about the Italian planes in general. How were the designed to fly?.......how were they flown etc.......?

thnks again

Italian planes were designed much like the Japanese. To be manuervable so the pilots can use aerobatics in dogfights. Such the case with Fiat CR.42, Macchi C.200, Fiat G50 and the Japanese zero. But after Hurricanes and P-40s showed up in North Africa things needed to be changed. The italian guns and radial engines were quite poor by 1940s standard. The 202 was basicaly a 200 with german DB 601 engine and new fuesalage. Many 200 parts stayed to keep manueravbilty and to start production quickly. The 202 tough still had the 12.7mm guns. The 7.7mm wing guns were rarely used. The 202 outclassed the p-40 and hurricane easily, and was on par with the Spit 5, except for guns.
When p-38s, spit9 etc. showed up it was time for upgrade in 202. DB 605 engine was fitted along with 2 x 20mm Mauser cannon. 3 Italian fighters the 205, the Re 2005 and the Fiat G55 produced in very small numbers were the best, least know fighters equal to the P-51, Fw190,Spit9,F6F,F4U and even better still
