Kill stealing
« on: December 27, 2004, 03:19:18 PM »
Well, I upped from 164 last night for base defense. As I'm raising my gear and getting some speed up, I notice two fellow countrymen mixing it up with a Hurricane. The Cane is chasing one guy and the other makes a pass at the Cane with no luck. I turn into the Cane and shoot him down. I immediately get accused of "kill stealing". Well, one guy missed and the other had the Cane on his tail. I figured one had his chance and I saved the other one from possible death. You guessed it, I didn't get a thank you from the guy that the Cane was chasing. Do I care? No. Did one of them whine? Of course.

LoL, the funny part is, if you didn't jump into the already 2vs1 and the hurri killed the 1 guy, he woulda yelled at you for just watchin:rolleyes: Basically, you'll never make everyone happy. Just do what you feel is best in the situation and run with it.

Smartazz! :D

I used to make it a point not to help the ones who I knew would whine. But if I did help someone and got b1tched out for "stealing their kill. I'd just follow them around for the rest of the time I spent on line that night, or that day and rack up kills by their own expense. Ofcourse they wouldnt get any tho. 8)

I was the kill stealer of all kill stealers at one time ...

I would not shoot a disabled plane (unless you were a squaddie) but I would kill any plane right from out under you if you weren't fast enough. Fly with the BKs' (especially Lazs or Leviathn) and this becomes second nature. I will still do this, but only when I fly with these bastages.

BUT ... I have changed my ways ... I have seen the light.

In most instances I will ask first if help is needed and if its not, I will provide high cover and only jump in when the tables have turned for the worse or I am called in. I do this because there are many times when I have worked my arse off to reverse a bad situation and just about the second I finally get a guns solution, some goober comes zooming in and pops my bandit and steals the "moment" from me. The "moment", the "kill" has been takin' from me ... at this point I must take ten deep breaths and say 5 Hail Mary's and then I am good to go again.

Now if the bastage you shot was presenting a dangerous situation for you ... then kill him as fast as you can. If you could have gotten up without danger then you should have let the other guy finish what he started.

I wasn't intentially "steal killing". 164 had been under heavy attack and I was upping to try and defend it. Low and behold, there's a Cane in front of me and I took it out. If I see a "one on one" fight going on by itself, I'll ask the friendly if they need any help. If the fight is going on close to or over one of our bases, then it's fair game in my book.

Sounds like you did the right thing to me.  The guy being chased might shoulda thanked ya....the guy doing the chasing shouldn't have missed.

I have been in the same situation that Slap was talking about...especially those deals where I reverse a plane like a spit while in a mustang....and just as I get ready to shoot, boom he dies.  However I have also been in those situations where I didn't get the reversal and whined like a little girl to my squaddies for letting him kill me.

Of course I would never learn anything if I got my butt saved everytime.  They'll give ya a new plane everytime ya break one...no sweat.

Ya gotta learn to ignore the goobers on text buffer (this includes me frequently).

It's only kill stealing if you engage a plane that is already dead.  For example, engaging a plane that just had it's wing blown off and is just fluttering to the ground.

Stealing is to shoot down disabled planes.
Other thing is if two people have a one on one and you dive in cherry picking or otherwise killing the guy.

But... when its a clear base defence situation i shoot all the planes with red icons, when you want one on one fights need to look a bit further out.

Some people just cant say thank you so they say something snoddy when you clear their 6. Read it as something like "i am a good pilot i can kill em myself when i have the time". At least i read it that way.

I agree,

Stealing is when you fight some plane and stop when a wing or tail is off, and then you see some other guy strafing the now dead / disabled plane.

I also been accused off stealing, but not when shooting at dead planes. (cos I dont shoot at dead planes.)

Once I was fighting a plane for 1-2 minutes high 15-20k 1v1, then he starts to run and a xSquad mate from a xSquad sees the running plane and tries to shoot it. When I zoom in with all my E past my xSquad mate and finish the job, I get an "Aaaah comon Stone, why did u steal my kill"

Doh !

Or this other time a guy anounces that there is a plane bellow, so I follow him in on the attack. Turns out the annoucement was ment to say "I saw him first, its my plane" not "Lets get this enemy plane". So when I get on the enemy planes 6 the guy  goes "Oh u r not gona steal that plane from me now are you?"

Doh ! (well he did kill enemy E but still...)

Then I got pshyced up. Do I need written permission to shoot on a plane, if there is green planes in icon range?

So next time I saw a squad mate ropes a 190D and I get behind the 190D. Now just as I am about to fire, I think "Hmm now is that guy also gona accuse me from stealing his roped plane?". So I decied not to fire... Then I get the feeling that the rope is not gona work, and get a few shots off before I zoom past. When I get my nose down I can see the 190D killing my squad mate...
So I should had shot the 190D.

See what this stealing bs talk gets us...

I have roped countles times red planes, and when about to reverse, some other green plane comes and blows the guy away.

Does that feel frustating, shure it does. Do I accuse them of stealing? Hell no !

So only steal is when some one shoots at planes that are missing major parts. (eg. whole wing, whole backpart of ac)

Its stupid to waste ammo on disabled planes, just to make sure to get the kill.

Well at the moment I dont have an account, (got tierd of the hords 5 vs 50), but if (or when) I come back, please kill all red planes in front / behind or below / above me.

I dont think its stealing.

The thing that irratates the hell out of me is when someone flies right in front of you to get the kill. I could care less who gets the kill. Hell if you have a better shot, take it. Just let me know your coming through dammit. KS sucks!!!
