Probably both. The total moves up and down, but such movements are not overall trends, but year on year fluctuations. Fewer than 10% of total homicides are committed with a gun. I think the gun control laws have something to do with that. ;)

Prevention is better than cure. :aok

Tell you what since you can't own land in Jamaica "Unless you are Jamacian (smart people) ...

I think you have your islands confused ... many Americans OWN property in Jamaica. We have had a place in Runaway Bay for over 20 years now.

Does any agency keep statistics on the number of people from countries with defenseless, unarmed civilians who are murdered by their own governments?  If memory serves, I believe there was a significant number of defenseless citizens murdered by, or with the complicity of, their governments during the 1930s and 1940s.  That is a trend that continues to this day...in certain areas of Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.

By the way, that 16,000 murders a year is a total of ALL homicides in the U.S., both justified and unjustified.  Since many of these are drug or gang related, I don't think any changes are going to significantly effect the numbers, because those perps don't give a dam- about the law.

U.S. Boosts Tsunami Aid Tenfold to $350M

DEB RIECHMANN

Associated Press

CRAWFORD, Texas - The United States is pledging $350 million to help tsunami victims, a tenfold increase over its first wave of aid, President Bush announced Friday.

"Initial findings of American assessment teams on the ground indicate that the need for financial and other assistance will steadily increase in the days and weeks ahead," Bush said Friday in a statement released in Crawford, Texas, where he is staying at his ranch.

"Our contributions will continue to be revised as the full effects of this terrible tragedy become clearer," he said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this epic disaster."

Bush also is sending Secretary of State Colin Powell to Indian Ocean coastal areas ravaged by earthquake and tsunami to assess what more the United States needs to do. The president's brother, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, will travel with him.

The newly announced aid came after some critics claimed that the initial U.S. contribution of $35 million was meager considering the vast wealth of the nation.

France has promised $57 million, Britain has pledged $95 million, Sweden is sending $75.5 million and Spain is offering $68 million, although that pledge is partly in loans.

beet... you are correct on one count... if we removed every homicide from our rate that was committed with a firearm we would still have a higher rate than you do.   If we did remove every firearm across the land we would have as high or higher of a homicide rate here.  It is not the weapon it is the people.

Anyway, what does that have to do with Quebec's pinko pansies.

You should just let it go for once Wease.

Sizeable crew tho, 500 men 130 truck looks to be one of the largest contingents sent from a single outside source. Anything other than lend-lease would be unamerican.

Kuebec sent down 122 men.

I would grant you pity tho, if it turns out that the canuck who owns the property you so covet is a hairy Francophone with a vast Spedo collection.
