Even the Gospel talks about giving in private, stating that giving in secret will be rewarded by God in the open. However, giving so that others may see your generosity for the purpose of being praised by one's peers; that praise will be the only reward.

Rip,
Remember to tell Crabo to ask these folks as well.

BTW, $500 and that's it?  You just bought a camera for more than that.   How do I know?  You bragged about it on this BBS in the midst of sharing with us the details of your $110K toy shopping spree.

Honestly Rip, I think it's great that you are giving, but man, you sure do know how to make people think you're an bellybutton while your giving it.

Hell,  I wouldn't have even responded in this thread if you hadn't mentioned me by name.

Gentlemen, Gentlemen, please!

Can we not argue about whether or not it is cool to give to charities anonymously or out in the open?  Does it really matter?

You guys are starting to make me feel as though I have to snatch the Ronald McDonald donation cup and run with it to a dark corner of the store if I want to donate anything larger than a buck!

Sorry Stringer, if I can convince one person to give, I feel its worth it.

Have you loosened up that check book yet?

Please stop, I'm tearing up here.  That cross is just too big for you to bear, and it tears me up inside to have to see you carry it.

We lately have sent so much to the Red Cross I think we need to open up an auto draft from my bank account.... And have no problem doing it, after living thru florida Hurricane season which by the way was a fart in the wind compared to the tsunami tragedy, we all realize how bad it is over in asia right now....
I look at this charity/giving issue this way.... Peer pressure in this situation can never hurt! All countries will need to help out as much as possible...

How about a good swedish recipe?

we got devastated during IVAN.  house devistated.  i was grateful to those who helped and utterly shccked by those who did not.

it puts things into perspective.

but i couldnt even fathom for a moment, not even for a second what it must be like over there.

my heart goes out to all and i think that the US should be leading the pack on a helping hand.

i have heard some say, screw them...they harbor terrorists.  ya, that wont breed more will it?  hello?

an interesting thing.  during the cold war we shipped grain to the USSR.  kind of hard for them to attack us when we are feeding them.  it is, in my opinion one of the things that helped "win" it.
this thread is doomed.

Your very welcome.
Its only the beginning
You will find the corporations as well as the private sector are really gonna kick in too.
I saw a report today of companies starting to kick in money and aid in the millions.
On of our pharmaceuticals I saw is sending 35 million in medical supplies.
But it wont just come from the rich.  Alot will come from the people. Many who are poor themselves and barely can put a meal on their own table will send what they can.
It the way we are.

America, and Americans as a whole do alot more for countries in times of crisis then we get credit for.
Hell we even offer to help our enemies during natural disasters.
Yet it seems no matter what we do we as another put it in the end  always get criticized.
We dont do it for the credit, or the recognition but because its right.
So please excuse us if we seem to get a bit over sensitive about it.

So on behalf of my fellow countrymen
thank you for the thank you.

It isnt expected but it is nice to hear for a change

BTW good luck
