Buying a New Power supply suggestions?
« on: January 02, 2005, 07:30:38 PM »
Hi I have an Epox 8rda+ board with an AMD XP2400 CPU question is what type of power supply with a compromise of stbale power and of course price would be good for this type of setup am looking for the 400W range since I also have an ATI 9500 GPU yeah my rig is old but I'll be upgrading stuff as they year goes along
I just have this as a main priority since I plan on slapping and replacing my old 2 30 and 20gb hd for a 200gb one and a DVD burner  .

Any help would be appreciated.

id be sure to get a ATX ver 2.0 or greater, for future compatability
as most the newest MBs want the 24 pin connector.  it is backward compat with a adapter.

also i wouldnt get less then a 450W, again future considerations.

Can't go wrong with Antec.  You can get the 480 for $16 more than the 430.  I had a 430 in my sig rig until I thought it had failed.  It turned out to be the mobo though.  Personally, I never scimp on the PSU so would prolly get the 550 for future upgrades unless I was going to keep that box intact and start over on the next upgrade.

No No No that Sony DVD burner is a POS

Get an NEC3500A 16X DVD burning and burns 4x Dual Layer discs, really the only one even worth considering and a steal for the price.  Problem with DVD burners are that some are very finicky when it comes to media.  This NEC burns anything under the sun.

On a side note, there are only 4-5 companies that produce media.  Not a single company (fuji, sony, tdk etc) makes their own media it is all outsourced.  You have to download a program called DVDinfo or use Nero Drive Speed to see who actually makes it.  Anything made by CMC is crap.  Taiyo Yuden is great as is MCC and Ricoh.
