How many would like this feature?

The ability to land and pick up a downed pilot.

I think it would really bring back the fun.  I know I would do whatever it takes to rescue a squaddie.

I would hit the silk even more than I already do if there was a chance of making it back.

Most important, it might move the game a little away from "arcade" and more towards "sim".

Yep it was realy common to go pick up downed pilots over enemy territory.

It has been sugested before. But I do not belive many people would want to wait around to be picked up. So even thow it would be a cool feture, It somthing that wouldn't be used very often, and hence not very high on the wish list items.

Now in TOD where deaths can have a big penalty, it might make sense to do.

True it didn't happen all that much, but  "In Real Life"  (IRL tm) there were other methods of recovery outside of Germany.  In the South Pacific recovery was common.

If we are talking about what was really common, how about 95% of the buff flights below 2000 feet?

The BBS is a pretty fair representation of the AH crowd that is most concerned with the direction fo the sim.  I'd like to know what they think.

1) Would you wait to be picked up?

2) Would you pick up a downed pilot?

Hitech, what a great job you've done.  I've been playing since WB 1.64 (or there abouts).  Remember when we used to land at 300 mph wheels up to capture a base?

You said ... If we are talking about what was really common, how about 95% of the buff flights below 2000 feet?

I think he WAS agreeing with you ...

but the amount of effort to make this happen does not justify the means. He believes (and so do I) that most people will not wait 5-10-15-20 minutes for some sort of recovery plane to come pick you up.

Now .. if I read him right, he is probably considering this for TOD, so when he gets around to coading this (how high is it on the priority list at this moment - only he can say), we might see it in the MA too.

1. No, I don't think I would wait. The main reason being that your sitting there waiting for up to 10min and then see the guy who is coming to get you shot down right before he gets to you.

2. Yes I would pick someone up if they waited.

I'd say wait until TOD.

This goes along with being able to "field repair/Refuel" a plane...as for the time people would wait for a rescue or supplies.....Look to the spawn campers for the answer...they will wait for hours.

Would be a great feature for TOD but I don't see myself worrying about it in the MA since I don't have a bail out key mapped. It just takes to long to get to the ground that way, I like the express elevator :D

If deaths meant something, as HT is hinting at for TOD, it would be a different story.

wOOt!, er, I mean yeehar! HiTech said "TOD" ;)

As for the idea and using it in the MA? All I can ask is who would be doing the pickup? Do these types of people exist that would find it fun? I'm not sure even shed battling, pork'n'auger dorks would get into playing a "bus" service to players who got thier butt shot down.

Well.... (thinks about the last time I saw the MA demographics) ....then again perhaps there is a large segment of the population that would do it for "points".....

(fwiw, over in "another game" it is a royal, repeat, ROYAL! pita to get a tow or trucked anywhere. I just can't see players in AH finding any fun listening on the country channel to players screaming aloud that someone had better pick them up)

So essentially you'd want to set it up so that a guy in a 51D could land and have the other pilot sit on his lap and fly out as was done by George Green picking up Pierce McKennon, and a couple other pilots?

Would you also have it where there would be the potential for ground troops to be shooting at them and for the field to be too soft to take off again as happened on a number of occasions?

Or are you talking about guys who ditch in the water having the potential to get picked up by a PT or a PBY?

Either way it's gotta be way way down the list of things to add to the game
